My number is 283 to the Pulaski exit.  Roughly 4 1/2 if I make a pit stop on I90 for a whiz and beans.  Regardless what route I take, TSP to 90 to 790 to 90 to 481 to 81, 84 to 87 to 90 to 481 to 81, or 84 to 17/86 to 81 to 481 to 81 it still takes the same amount of time.  If I could only convince my wife to move that would solve a lot of problems.

176 to Altmar. About 3 and 20, though its been 5 plus in some hellatious blows during steel season. I don't mind though, means noone on the river for the most part. Now we have a little car that gets 40 mpg with studded snows on the front. Actually made it out of the Pineville lot when there was some snow last winter. I'm carrying chains, too.  I hitch rides with HT,  too. You gotta fight the bastard to get him to take gas money or let you buy a meal.  Every once in awhile you run across a good fishing buddy....

It is  110 miles for me and takes 90 minutes on dry roads with the sun still below the horizon.  Going home will depend on how many times I doze off at the wheel and have to find a MickyD's for coffe or milkshakes.

i did make it in under 80 minutes once during a wildcat truckers strike.
i stuck myself between to semis.
first one was bobtailing and had a big sign in the window saying going home.
the second one had a sign saying running empty.
my hand to God we never went under 85 and when an overpass was coming up we were over a hundred.
harder for the rock throwers to be accurate if the signs didn't work.
it felt like my little amc spirit was running 6 inches above the road surface on the cushion of air created by the trucks.
    good times.

Hey- some of you guys drive FAST--
Just a tip- was comin up one night few years ago with the Cruise set to bout 68 on the truck. Fella a ways out in front of me for bout half hour started to pull away a bit and was  stopped in a radar trap.
Musta been a  slow night cause  have seen many in the70s buzz right through them on normal days. He couldnt have been goin more than a little over 70.
Since then I NEVER set it any higher than 70 mph. Aint worth the price  even on   a 275 m trip- only a few minutes diff in the big picture and not worth Court dates possible insurance issues and a few hundred bucks.
Yea- I'm gettin old and scarey too.

You hinted towards a trick I use. Go only as fast or 1-2 mph less than the vehicle that just passed you. We call him/her the bait car. Once the bait car goes past pick up the speed to just keep them in sight. If you lose em you'll have to play nice till another one blows by, then its game on. You would not believe how many times this has worked for us. Did get stopped once but that was due to a blown headlight thanks to the whitetail I creamed in the morning drive.

Have kinda done that till I realized most are not on cruise control and vary their speed too much. How many times has somebody buzzed by and then pulled in front of ya an slowed to the point ya gotta go around them a mile or two up. Bait is great but it aint dependable enough for me.
      HATE those fast/slow drivers.

I do get that sometimes, I thought it was because they saw the red lights on my truck. But MOST police have a tolerance, some its 5 over, 10 over, I even know of some that have it at 15 and over. And they still have no problem filling their ticket books. Either way its still a gamble

Usually fine at 70 to 72 for me.  Also depends on the time of day.   Below 75 during rush hour is usually fine as there are bigger fish to fry.  72 during the middle of the day or at night maybe not be as lucky.  I ALWAYS feel better when someone blows by me though.  They are also much less tolerant off the highway too.  I try not  to go much over 70 though.  To me it's a like a DUI.   Just like 1 or 2 MPH are those 1 or 2 drinks worth the chance,  nope I'll drink diet coke.
