I have hooked 2 this year on one like the green one. I call them mini comets like to wrap the body in estaz and have a little tail off the end. Best colors for me have been. Orange, pink, green, blue and black

Oh, come on, you have to be able to see a tongue in cheek. I had no reference, they could have been tied on 2x 10's. The larger residents (all three or four of them) of the ponds I fish would hit and get hooked on a two (just not mine, usually), and those 2's would be ideal for salmon. bUt they look like 4 colors, and that seems like a lot of work! keep it simple unless you enjoy spending alot of time on them comets, estez eggs, buggers, marrabou, bunnies, milty eggs...less than a minute a fly for kings short answer, yes they will all catch salmon ;) different story (somewhat) for steelies...i spend alittle more time and do some more intricate patterns

thanks guts. I thought there was a hint of tongue in cheek so i tried a little in my answer. A little more work but i have been told there is nothing one color in nature. those were a couple of marabuos and bunny that i rolled when i was tired and bored with the 2 toners which is the norm. ps clint just between you and me,hey everyone else stop reading this, that green one was killa for a friend until the ones i left with him ran out. don't worry bill. my bucktail is shot but i was able to twist up a couple more for wed.

Wb, Those flies are all wrong, maybe good for brookies as 13 pointed out but for salmon all you need is a piece of black sponge. If you really want to get artistic you can tie a size 14 black stone. The smaller the better, their eyesight is very keen. Black is best

thanks tuna i have tied a couple dozen #28 drains twenties. they are colorful with all those different materials but i was hoping they were small enough so they wouldn't see them coming. now i'm scared with their keen eyes i will have to find 20 shades of black and use the rest of my #28s up. quah es eso? or maybe its que es eso? with the wb?

Bigbear . Heard they were filming for a movie. Musta been everyone wanted to be a star. I had some friends who decided to try their luck over the weekend and even the private stretch wasn't so private or friendly for that matter.
Ok twobob, I can't speak Spanish or even French give me the willies so quah remains few and very far between. Honestly however on your fly selection. My box is full of phatties like them ones. Will say though , last year I fished the joss which is kinda outta my realm and found smaller versions worked well

small is going to be a problem. i lost my second salmonid fly box in two years. been slacking tying just enough to fill it out. now i have a baggie with a handful of flies in it. class act i am. by the way rain was never going to be a problem. i bring it with me like jonas. a raincloud over my head were ever i go. i camped 4 weeks straight along a steelfish river and not a drop of rain. except the three days each time i came up. poured every time the whole time. wind blowing so hard the fiberglass tent poles bowed to it an the side wall was literaly inch from my nose. it is a six man tent by the way. i like room for my queen size air mattress. and i am seeing a monsoon hitting as soon as i arrive this year. hope it hits the tug and not selkirk.

Go as small as you can, by now these fish are scared s**tless of anything flashy or bright because those bugs like to bite them in numerous areas. The fish I've been casting too are even freaking out over a passing leaf.

I think in low water with hearing about masses of fish , I'll take the big flashy aproach for aggressors. Thanks for the color tip. Plenty size four chartreuse comets ready. Hot fly 4 years ago but every other color since has worked. P.S. My expectations are lowering by the click. Sure guys wouldn't rather go brookie fishing ?

for all the hatch matchers out there. i recommend the styrofoam coffee cup pattern. they seemed to hatch heavily starting around 9 am both days i was there. looked like a pretty major hatch. lasted all day but was heaviest mid morning for some reason.

Different parts of the river have different hatches. In the LFZ, when it opens, the best one is the Hydration hatch . Sub-species Aquafina, Saratoga, and Poland Spring . Frothing the water with Spey Rods seems to bring them up. Right place at the right time, I guess. HT and I took lots of samples out last year. Like stoneflies, they crawl out on the bank and congregate under the vegetation. Stupid azz like me brings a Thermos. No wonder I never catch anything.

last week end the black sponge hatch was apparently on at the staircase.... seemed like the best presentation was when it was coupled with a size 02 double strong hook and 20-50 lb line on a tuna rod

Fichy, There is no whining in fishing. I seem to recall you and HT tearing them up (Ho's) early last year. My money says you do the same come the 23rd.

Those hatch comments are some funny chit -but also sad at the same time. People saw me fillin a bag last weekend and I swear they thought "no problem with litter-they have someone picking it up". Trying for this weekend and might attempt the fly rod. Anybody willing to give me a lesson for an hour or so PM me. Probably flying solo and could use help. Got the basics but that's about it.
