What a difference two days made.

Well wanted to be the first guy to the spot had a feeling they would be there, wrong. Fished mid river again today what a difference from friday. I managed two kings but only saw three other fish in 5 hours of fishing, my buddy saw 5 and didnt get a take at all. Basically fished from ellis cove to pineville bridge there is not alot of fish up top today, the two I landed hit ran about 30 yards shook their heads a few times then rolled over and played dead, they were still silver just had no fight in them at all. The three lots I went by on the way home had 10 cars at least in each of them, lots a folks walking around and hunting for fish, cant get up again till friday hope it picks up a little by then.

Retired, totally agree with the fast fight and revive method. I was useing 10 lb segar floro tippet, actually my hole leader is segar starting with 20 down to 10 as for the rod, I firmley believe in cheap tackle for salmon as I have seen many times what they can do to your gear. I am on my 3rd season with a 9' 8 weight redbone with a cheap 7/8 weight cabelas prestige real and the kicker is I reuse my 5 weight dry fly line for the salmon. I have three rods rigged this way for friends and who ever might need one. Since I take alot of first timers fishing if something does happen to a set up Im only out 100 bucks.

Pa I wouldnt eat a mudshark if it was fresh out of the ocean! Haddock, walleye and perch are the only fish Ill eat. Temps are suppose to be in the low 70s during the days this week but rain is still the major need.

Funny you should say that but have had very good days many times early season upstream. Where do you think the bursts of fish go after they leave the dsr?

Fished above the ballpark today and tangled with 3 kings right after sun up and that was it. By lunchtime any fish I saw which was **** few were all heading downstream. Plus it looked like the water dropped about 2" since the morning. Really wasn't worth the tank of gas for me today.

Oh I know all about the first half of September. But what surprised me the most was October size crowds. That's what shut down most upstream fish movement. Did I miss the "hey there's a major run going on" banner? For those of you who stood in the middle of the river and chained across the staircase, (witnessed) thank you for messing it up for others. Let the games begin!

3fan its too bad i missed ya, maybe next time. On saturday there were quite a few off the altmar bridge in the afternoon. these were the fish from early last week which we're slow movers. I hit Douglaston yesterday morning and managed to hook 3 and land them all. there weren't too many fish but there were enough. There's a big difference in yesterday's fish that came in though. They were running much more rather than resting like last week fish. Also there fighting much more aggressively. We are getting down into the mid 30 tonight. This is going to continue to get down the river temperatures as well as the lake surface temperatures. This could bring some fish back out from the deeper waters in the lake and could set it up for a decent Mid week... as for the upper reservoir let's just keep our fingers crossed as there is no rain in the forecast right now

their site says the upper parts have been best the last coule of days.

What I seen sat afternoon . The majority of guys were slaying / again proper term/ from the little black up.
Not many fish made it through that gauntlet .

If it were me , I would still fish from the flats to the glide..

Two last week Tues-Thursday was really good, low fishermen numbers and fish were moving more freely. I was blown away by the mayhem in the village over this past weekend. If I could get the sniffles and call in I would be there tomorrow and say the heck with the weekends.

That's where the squad from another forum has been setting up. It was very crowded there in the heavy water. It was a weekend though but still some of those folks fish there every day so I'd assume there will be a crowd from here on out.


Funny thing , nobody except those 2 guys I spoke with we're fishing the black hole itself. They were catching chubs.

i think the c& r policy is only for trout.
