Report Sept 5 & 6

Got in Wed eve and took a look around the Ballpark- Some hookups seen before dark,
Thurs- yard work-  got fishing bout 3 PM and was told it had been very good for this time of year all day.  IT WAS TOO--right till bout 6:30 when I left. Was fishing above town.
Today got out late Am and the fishing had slowed -was still OK.
Think my best was in the very high 20s and saw bigger landed and busting by.
Its still Sept fishing so dont think this a HOT report but it was just fine for this time of year.
Water is still way too low and the Res is said to be VERY LOW. Might be trouble ahead without lots of rain. LOTS---
HEY- '' river rumor '' of the past two days was heard a few times- folks saying DSR it tying to buy  town property below 81  in  the Ballpark/soccer field area for another pay to play.
Hope some of you local guys can come up with the truth on this cause I for one aint gonna defend them anymore in any way till I find out.
Figure that in the long run that would pretty much ruin the low end for average folks and drive so many upriver that it would be ruined too. Would kill August/Sept fishing for many.
Gotta wonder how many  low River shops and eateries and hotels and such would never rebound.  Betcha Altmar folks hearing the 'rumor' are jumping for joy.

Heard the same rumor also, apparently the Ringgold Fire Dept is gonna be selling the lot cause they can't afford it. Which has me scratching my head. Unless they don't have a tax exemption and have to pay on it, fire depts usually don't have a problem with finances unless they go over budget. Hell if they (fire dept) charged $5 parking fee I would pay it, I love that section. I really don't like the politics shaping up in Pulaski. About time for some fishing community outcry.

Thanks for the info-- That stinks.
One thing I have learned in Politics- They ALWAYS try and sell the issue as a win win with few or no other possibilities. Oh Yea- and its gotta be done quickly too- before too many people ask too many pertinent questions.
Fire Trucks can cost in the Hundreds of thousands. Even with State or Federal assistance it leaves a large amount for the locals to come up with. Dont know if that the issue but -an example.
As I recall looking at the State easements there are none below  81 bridge -probably as its mostly Public owned and there was no need. Boy is that possibly changing. That is a huge very popular piece of River access that could  be lost.
Odd how this works out-- DSR folks SAVE the Fire Dept. ??? win win- who could vote against that.
Hey why aint there no fisherguys in Town spending anymore ????
If they really need a bailout one must ask what the State would pay for easements on such a large piece- Specially with that local politico at the State helping to push it ---betcha no one has even asked.
      Do they own both sides??
Nothing on this on other Boards- those with multiple memberships could spread the awareness --

Yeah the state has just spent 43 million for 69000 more acres in the adirondacks I think from a paper company. Would've been nice for a piece of that to secure what we are talking about.

    Coho-
I would not doubt  a deal like that could  get done. There are many  that think there is no significant positive Fiscal impact whatsoever from this industry.
Since being up so much  I find some who decry us as being responsible for tax increases and any other negative issues in the area.
On the other Board we are commonly referred to a POS outastaters. As far back as the  'Old Hickory' days long distance fishermen were  described as a nuisance.
Some will never listen to  Fishermans concerns on access till their property values drop through the floor. Then that will be our fault too.
On the flip side there are many who know darned well where their bread is buttered and one can only hope they step up. Petty jealousies and theories feed the negatives in this kinda stuff and allow it to go on.
Low river parking for NON pay to play guys will become the biggest issue IMHO and  keep folks away.
Imagine all those low river guys having to join the already shoulder to shoulder upriver folks during the Season   ughhhh. Parking lots aint big enough for everyone now---

I agree retired. Its one of the reasons why I stated where im from. IF they read these forums hopefully they would see that I am a New Yorker that has their same concerns about their land, and their towns. I don't know if they do, but what the heck if they did. I do know the garbage left behind is one of the biggest complaints they have, and the easiest we can solve. EVERYONE CARRY YOUR CRAP OUT! Its not hard, you brought in with you, respect the landowners like it was your property. That would be a big step towards keeping access. I know who cares its not your property. We can't fix stupid Retired, especially when its bigger than us.

When  last talked to a State DEP resource they advised that NO cans will be forthcoming along the river. They need to be cleaned far too often because of misuse was the story. One of the mentioned misuses was  overloading of household type trash--fishermen ????
Also pickup regularly along the lots and river. Even carry those grabbing tools to pickup with along with garbage bags in the truck. . It all comes back to Ct with  me and put into my garbage cans here at home.
Hey = got a house and land a coupla miles from the SR  and pay all the County school and local taxes just like a full time resident as well.  Consider it another home and like to keep the whole area  nice . Am still an outa Stater though. lol.
