The Pulaski report of Labor

Been coming her for many moons an a labor day weekend.
Really for me it's the start of fishing season until next July .
So far it was a bright full moon last night ? Withe the big lake crashing waves campside until around 3am.
Long night so sleep in till 10am today. Man that felt GREAT !!!
Made way to a flea market sale this morning and scored big time. !!!! Gently and I mean like new , Teva Sandels and Bass waterproof trail walkers . Total $2.00 . I'm happy..
Now it's on to chicken BBQ , alittle swim in the lake then yak the estuary for the evening bite..

Big Lake settled down this morning bit a bit choppy now. Plenty of trollers out on the horizon ..
Dsr had about 20 in lot this morning . Scouting , hunting ?? But without a push of fish , I'll be yaking this weekend.

Later:
Peace & Tuna

Good luck down there.  You are certainly not missing much up in the river.

Put yak in at rt 3 bridge. Fished down to pine grove launch then up to bus hole in dsr.
The smell of dead salmon was the only thing I found in the form of cold water species .
Fishing was tough. Had 2 blow up on a scum frog and 1 pike follow a silver minnow.
Other then seeing a nice pike lying dead on the bottom , that was it.

Gonna take the yak out on the lake in a few mins . It's glass right now then later take the grand kids on walk along the river.
Fishing wise ? It's as said , still a lake fishery and can't wait to troll it next week.
Some nice BIG salmon came into woodys last evening while I was in there buying ice fishing supplies :) Great store

Left the shores of lake o at 3pm . Got to home front with enough time to get paint brush out .
No Internet so awesome pictures of an awesome labor weekend will have to wait.

Charlie , you guys have a fantastic trip .. No doubt it sounds like a dream ..
Safe return and try as we might next weekend , I'm sure there well still be some fish left in the lake for ya.

    So here are my observations:
1: I may not have noticed this but the UFZ along paradise is now posted with no parking:
These look new and will be interesting on how that works out.
2: the town wall looks like all the other Erosion control methods they have been using. I do know this, it sure changes the migration paths of the fish.
3: not much has changed since I was last in Oswego county ,Same ole same old . Nice country when peaceful , and it was for a holiday..

    Fishing report;
Sat: fished estuary from yak: 3pm till dusk.. Sloooow.
Sunday: went to UFZ to renlearn the area after the flood . Never got the chance to fish there much since. So much has changed up there and found what I hope will be the new sweet spots.
I fished all the fund and pocket water with any depth swinging a size 6 leech bugger pattern. Clint is right, par salmon and stock trout galore. No big migratory fish for me..
    Monday:
Took a ride to woodys early and see a rod bent on rt3 bridge. Stopped at parking lot for a few hrs drinking coffee and spotting fish.

All in all a fantastic relaxation weekend . Can't wait to troll flashers & flies as well as nk's next Friday.
Still the lake action is out in the 100' plus range.

    Finally;
The salmon river has some of the best and user friendly access of any river of its kind in all of NY:

Nice photos Tuna- nice trip too- right bout the last photo.
Have never been down in that end of the river- interesting
That Hen did well up by UFZ- not seeing too many with several  live chicks this year,
Think I have seen that lagoon though- might have even thrown a line in there by the tailout.

Hey Tuna took a look at those 'bridge rigs' --Wed they were usuing bright green floating eggs and a pile of muzzel loader balls for weights- Trebbel hooks were not uncommon.
When cast too far they were quickly brought back into sight and whenever fish came by they were very quickly picked up from the water- Yaaaaannnnnnk.

Out on lake by noon yesterday and right off get go 2 kings hit the deck . 70' down over 80' water.
After that is was a slow troll until dark. We had 4 other releases with one fish breaking us off.. Someone forgot to set their drag, so you may find a king swimming the river with a green flasher & fly ..

Woke up at 5am to some wind already. Forecast is 1-3' with 5-7 footers noon.
Gonna try to beat it out there before it gets to bad.

We battled some 5 footers on way back but safe and on dry land. Still a few crazies out there.
Time to throw the waders on and go hunting.
    P.S.
    Just started to rain

Unfortunately I dont think one day of heavy rain ( if that even happens) will be significant enough to cure the issues up at the Res.
They need a prolonged period of soaking rain that runs off after perking followed by decent snow this Winter-heck that last reported inch or so did nothing for the water levels- even in the river. Feeders are lowwww too even after  that.
I try and look at the bright side but the vision is narrowing this season- the long range is looking dry till decision day on the 15th.
This is shaping up to be a really big deal. If this continues we could be remembering the 12 season for a long time. Even in 07 it wasnt like this at the Res.
Hate to sound like the Party Pooper.

    Know what ya mean Tuna-
One reason I bugged out yesterday was cause I didnt wanna be there on the weekend with the low water conditions and rising fisherman populations.
It was tough to pick a small pool an try and fish it right with the herders  , chasers and such that seems to happen in that kind of condition all too often.
Was standing there lettin the runners  run and droppin a variety of offerings  in front of those few that held up for a bit in the pool.
Hey -Popsicles scared the ****ens out of them- went to smaller darker stuff.
Seems like every 3rd or 4th time I was fishin somebody would notice and run over to peer into the little 5 foot by 10 foot pocket with me. Yipppppeeeee. Yeeeeeehhhhaaaa. Ohmigodafish.  'HEY BOB AN FRANK  theres one in here' slash slash.
I would quietly move on to another pocket and hope for the best- it did work out more than I expected all things considered- a decent trip.
Ya just gotta know that stuff is gonna happen before ya start. They really believe that if your offering passes by without a good SNAG a few times it is now their turn to let it RIP..

As 3fan said,, what a difference..
We were right into fish from the git go (7am) in 3 footers at 70 fow.. I ran 5' up..
It wasn't long before the big BLOW hit and threw 5 footers at us sending to port around 11am..
Fish were stacked up from 60-80 fow..

    Today ::
Out they went.. Scattered in groups around 100-120 and would NOT bite..
We tried everything in the box.. Zip and others out were quiet as well..
A few that remained are right at the mouth.. , I'm sure DB will have a good lower end report then my lake one ;)

They will come, I just hope some more water does too..  Dead salmon smell ..
It may be sell out weekends down low.. FYI..

    P.S.
I totally forgot my camera and have 1 crappy phone pic from the weekend..
Sure hope the Bro took some..

    Go get em' folks ..
