st croix rod-rods

I just had a pole brake on a recent trip so im looking to splurge on a PS6'6''MHF2 OR THE PS7'O''HF2......... Majority of the fishing ill be doing with either one of these rods is just tossin lures nothing bigger then 3/4oz-1oz, anybody have 1 of these particular rods, I want something with a little stiffness in the tip for a good hookset. any info is  appreciated, thanks

Never messed around with the Premier series but I did have a 4C70MHF and it was a pool cue!  Great rod but too powerful for what I wanted.  I would rate it what every one else calls HEAVY.  For the lure range that you're gonna be throwing, I'd vote for the 6'6" MH.

st croix's are a great investment..  also love shimano graphites, stratus I want to say but can't remember offhand! Lately i've gone to mostly using rods that are a little beefier and glasses over.  They aren't quite as good for casting but they take abuse far better.  I may bring along one lighter casting rod when the need arises, but for all-purpose I'd rather have something that lasts!

My two Pike and light musky rods are St Croix and I doubt that I could find a better set of rods for what I do. One I bought back in the 80's and is a Premier 2401-MHf that is a little stiff for some situations such as throwing lighter spinners and plugs meps 3's and 4's and rappala 11's actually any rappala. The other is a Premier Surf 7' which is a a lite power mod-fast action one piece. It is not quite as stiff as the med-heavy and throws the lighter lures fine. Either one will sink hooks in 20 lb pike easily. The medium heavy rod is a little heavy for things like smallmouths in French Creek or the Allegheny in my opinion. they both look like they are 30 years old and have gone through lots of hard use. I would hate to break either one. My next rod purchase  will be a PS7MF2 for a rod for smallmouths and eyes in The French and Allegheny. I want a two piece so I can fit it in a car. Over the years manuvering my 7' rods in the family car has been a challenge.
