Chinook Fly Fishing Tackle

Thinking of going up to the Lake Ontario tributaries for Chinook Salmon.  What would you recommend for backing, tippets, leaders, etc ?  I will be using a 9 wgt rod.
Do they start the run early in September ?

Thank you for the help.

Sorry for the crappie reply, long day..
What would you use for a 20>30# stream caught fish on a 9 wt ?
Maybe 100 yards 30 or 150 20 # cortland backing and a 7.5' 0X tapered leader with 1X or 2X tippet.. That should hold em'..
    Sept 9 Kings & 17th Coho were fantastic last year.. 2012 ??
