Lead core line ?

Never used Lead core. I just wanted to know how most set up there reels.Seems to me it would be hard to use with planer boards. If all LC was on reel.Small boards would trip flag due to weight of LC draging. And Line will sag if put on big boards. So is it best to use A mono backing and then just the LC you may need ? Thanks in Advance!

5 cores can be run behind most inline boards, although they'll lag a bit.  I can run 4 or 5 7 cores behind each of my big boards without any problems, but my big boards pull hard.  One hint that might help you is instead of having a couple of rods rigged with 5 color, and a couple with 7 colors and a couple with full cores...spool up several rods with 5 colors and add snap weights if you want to get deeper...figure 1 oz of lead equals 1 color of LC.

As far as backing is concerned, a couple hundred feet of mono is fine, and so is braid...braid will get you more line on your spool, which is necessary if you fish Lake Ontario, mono is cheaper if not.  So, 200' minimum of backing, then leadcore then 50-100' of fluoro leader.
