Look at the frustration shown on this board after the 100th person asks if there are fish in the creeks, how many fish, and what are the biting. The folks at the Erie bait shops often get that before 8am.

People on the board don't get paid to answer it.

since when does one have to have their arse kissed by a BAIT SHOP guy to return to a BAIT SHOP!!!!!???? ITS A  BAIT SHOP!!!!! buy some bait and go use it. how rude could a BAIT SHOP guy possibly be? if he has what you need at a reasonable price, buy it. does the guy/girl at the gas station, grocery store, nacho guy, etc... kiss your arse. doubt it, but you keep going back. the guy that sells that $1 fly or $3 pack of salmon eggs, or 50 cent candy bar doesnt kiss arse so youre not going back? its a BAIT SHOP!!!!!!!!!!!

But yet a good many still do. They run a buisness. Customer service is a big part of any buisness.

And commander, no one says they have to kiss arse. But a smile or handshake goes a long way. I get that everytime I go to BAC west. No need to get upset about this, it's only my opinion.

the LAST thing i could EVER possibly get upset about is an opinion of a bait shop guy. however, i'd be a little concerned if a fella was always smiling at me.

i'm gonna start watching them bait shop guys, though. i never check to see how many worms are in that container and i never count the minnows either. its going to be my new years resolution to start doing that. better hope theyre all there or i'm NEVER going back.

next time i get nachos from the Aramark people at the next pittsburgh event i go to and i dont get a handshake or a smile, i'm going to find one in another section that does. also, if the beer guy doesnt yell "BEEEEEEEERRRR HEEERRREEE" in a nicer tone, i'm not buying anymore **** beer from him.

It's only OUR opinion also. The fact that you ASSUME that we are upset, could be idicative of how you might concieve that attitude of those who serve you. Granted, one has/should have a reasonable ( key word reasonable ) expectation of curteous service. Something that I USUALLY recieve at all shops, but don't ALWAYS recieve at any shop. I guess I just try to wear the other persons shoes awhile. Ever had a bad/frustrating day at work? I have. Ever take someone the wrong way? Ever have someone take you, or what you said the wrong way? If it is a pattern, that's one thing, but I understand folks DO have a bad day, and as long as they don't bring their deer rifle to work, and start shooting randomly, I can live with it.

to each his own. i know exactly what youre saying. you want good customer service. i like good customer service also. however, i dont need it for a dozen crawlers.

just some sound advice. keep an eye on them bait shop fellas that are always smiling at you and wanting to touch your hand. i bet they get a bit lonely being in a shop all day with the smell of "minnow" in the air.

I didn't direct the upset comment to you, more towards commander. His 3 posts in under 3 minutes lead me to this conclusion, which of course I could be wrong.

But I do see your point about a bad day, but I fish the tribs once a week, and I drive up from pittsburgh. Last year was my last year going to PR, i don't remember the exact number but it was over 4 seperate occasions I can remember, where the customer service was extremely poor. But, there was one man who took my fish for the smoking, (first and last time i'll do that, steelhead are ment to be caught, not eaten) and there was an older gentleman who was just a guinenly nice guy. I'd go back to him, but steelhead just arent worth eating to me.

Either way to get back to the main post, it's a shame the east side closed. Is there still bait shops there?

LMAO!!! what do you say to that???!!!!

if they wrote down every story and phone call/question theyve heard, they would probably have a best selling book.

i always wanted to own a bait shop/beer distributor. i figured if you want bait you have no choice and if you want beer you have no choice. i, however, have never been one to get up early. cant figure it out though. i'm always up early drinking beer from the night before.

sorry about the 3 posts so close together. being so concerned makes me realize why you get upset with bait shop fellas attitudes. no offense but you may be too sensitive.

as far as my posts being so close together, i was out very late last night, im hungover, and there arent any meaningful football games on until 4:00.

and thats how it should be. no reason to have fireworks/firearms if you dont have any alcohol to mix with them.

have only been to nashville and hendersonville. imo Tennessee is great. dont forget the sweet tea. hard to say "no" to grits and catfish any time of day when you hear the waitresses southern accent(if she has all her teeth of course).

I very much liked going into PR East.  Brian always gave me excellent info and I always learned something from him and always walked out of there  with more knowlege about steelhead catching than when I walked in.  Just before I heard about this closing I was telling a friend to go into PR East because there was a good guy in there named Brian. If someone had less than a good experience in that store, all I can say is....  "I don't care who you are, you are not going to maintain a pleasant demeanor %100 of the time no matter how well meaning we are and if it has to do with your occupation or not."  I'm bummed to see the store close. Very bummed. Good wishes to Brian wherever he is and I hope he does well and has a thick skin about any trash talk.

Brian gets paid to answer the phone? I don't think so.  They wouldn't be closing if he did. How many of the people who call actually stop at PR's?

jth,

It depends on your definition/threshold of acting like an arse. I don't doubt that at some point anyone might catch the folks at any shop, in a less than friendly spirit. Look at the frustration shown on this board after the 100th person asks if there are fish in the creeks, how many fish, and what are the biting. The folks at the Erie bait shops often get that before 8am. all while trying wait on customers, fill minnow buckets, and answer the same questions over the phone ( they could write a book of the questions they get asked ). I take this into consideration, and as long as I am treated fairly, I can overlook an occasional bad attitude, or short reply. In the long term, I believe you will find them curteous, if not friendly far more often than not.

I cannot disagree with you more there Spoon.  I don't disagree with what you say on here too often because I know you're a knowledgable person.  However, If a person first comes to this site for basic info and catches bad attitudes he will have a bad first impression.  If a person first goes into a bait shop, and senses bad attitudes and vibes, he will have a bad first impression.....First impressions, in my opinion, go a long way.  And if you are in business, like I am, It is my #1 responsibility to make that positive first impression!  It is only one simple way that keeps my business going and my customers coming back!  Take Care.

Shut,

I dig what you are saying, and as I said one should have a reasonable expectation that your employees leave a good first impession. You might even "expect" it in every case, every time. But let;s be honest, it ain't gonna happen. We still have to hire from the human race. Granted there are limitations to what can be tolerated, even on the occasional, or even single instance. At this point, I am far more interested in recieving COMPETENT service, than service with a smile. Being handed the correct order at B.K., not having to tell the clerk how much change I should get, you get the picture. I know Wallyworld has an extensive training program, because humans simply can not move that slow, naturally.

I for one am sorry to see PR East closing! I stoped a half dozen times each year and was greeted by Brian every time. Sometimes I wondered if he had a life other than that shop. I will miss the shop and Brian, he allways gave me great advise and I will miss PR East.
