Rain is a good thing
Finally it looks like some rain is gonna fall today on Tug Hill and other dry areas. Then another shot of rain on Wednesday. Actually right know looks like Syracuse is getting hit pretty good. I just don't wanna see a repeat of 2007 where it was a slaughter with the fishes backs sticking out of the water.

So far not getting what they called for it has stayed to the south. Rained a little for 5 minutes and now nothing more that a drizzle. Hope we get more. The res is doing OK considering.

In my area they were saying "drenching rain and flash floods" today and so far it's hot and humid but nothing on the radar to indicate rain. It's starting to get VERY dry here and the farmers are about ready to lose their corn crop, get ready to pay high food prices later.I'm ready for a tropical depression to bring in some moisture.

Hopefully it'll crank up for you up there Clint, if it doesn't I hope they reconsider the whitewater releases until more rain comes. I learned a long time ago if you gamble with mother nature you usually lose. But its good to hear the reservoir is holding up ok.

Hey Clint- Did Pulaski and the surrounding areas get any of that significant rain ???? The 10 day looks like its gonna continue to be very dry. Looked like a real fire hazard condition last week up there. Fields turning brown, rock hard ground and the Corn hasnt grown much if at all in the past couple of weeks. Gotta start to wonder bout some folks wells too--Every Summer wet spot and spring hole in my back woodlot was dry as a bone---Not good.

RG I live 2.5 hrs away from there and was keeping up on the rain via radar so I could see if the garden needed watering. They did get some rain from that system yesterday, it showed up dark green and yellow on the screen right over them a couple of times. Im sure it wasn't a cure all rain but in this game every bit helps. I know here at my house after two days of off and on it totaled 2-3 inches according to the weather guy. But most of it ran off.

It says Syracuse got .15 inches and we are lucky if we got that. Rained for about 2.5 hours , but nothing but a drizzle with 1/2 hour of very light rain. It was better than nothing, but for all intense purposes did not help much.

Well- at least there is no indication it will be anything like the drought back in the 80s. We barely got outa Sandy Pond late that Sept for a Lake trip. Marinas were so low in some places the boats were stuck at the docks for weeks . Fish numbers seemed to drop for a while after that one.- they said it affected the bait fish spawn in a big way. Dont recall a huge loss of water then in the river but the lake was several feet down for a long time.

Doing the same as you Pa. Watchin the weather and paceing the floor. Have heard from a friend who has been working the lake, besides the peek a boo salmon in the am before they scoot out deep the browns have been like pond sunfish, a blind man can catch them. All in about 60'. This site will explode in a couple weeks for sure.

Coho, from the sound of it there may be a bumper crop pf browns following the Salmon in.A couple years ago I had a banner year on Browns way up river, would like to do it again. I'm shampooing carpet today and watching the sky darken, looks like the storms are coming in earlier than predicted.

Yeah had two of them today at work, both dumped a ton of rain in half an hour. Ditto on the browns bud, that brown run should be very good.

I guess we should be careful what we wish for. Just saw the new hurricane outlook and its not good for those still cleaning up from Irene. Everything has changed and we are now in the perfect conditions for hurricanes to play in. Right now 4 tropical depressions are heading for the states with more marching off the African coast. We may very well be trading 90 degree temps in for waders real soon! Fish On!

We are getting a steady rain for the last hour or so,more on the way they say.Looks like the SR got some this morning also, some heavy rain east of there on the radar. It would be a good thing if one of those tropical depressions would give the mid west a soaker, too late for the crops but get some water in the ground.I'm confident that we will have water for the run. Think I'll start sorting thru my gear soon to help the itch

River was still at about the 185 mark the past few days and it was 51 degrees outside when I arrived very late Mon night- high 80s when I left yesterday. Hope those cool nights and new rains are helping the SR temps. Streams were not very high ( usual Summer lows) up there but the Mohawk and Hudson were both full up. Must have rained someplace. Far more folks in the river swimming than fishing. Heard there were actually a few very early Steel at the Hatchery but I couldnt findem in the River---just those pesky Smallmouth. The new banks at the Church hole in the LFZ and the downtown pool are well done and will facilitate many fishermen next season.

Well here in the Capital Region of NY we haven't had any significant form of perception in about 2 weeks.. A passing spit here and there but basically HOT and DRY..The only cool nights are from A/C relief.. This afternoon it started a steady Rain enough to shut work progress down today.. Which is ok after the HEAT wave all week.. Water drops will help my garden for sure.. Streams out back ? Maybe mud them carp up a bit but not raise any level at all.. Fished and Partied through Irene last year so Bite your tongue as to hurricane talk , at least just yet.. Much work and outside partying to get done .. Give it a month and then I'll be welcoming higher, cooler water.. Tie Flies :)

Thanks for mentioning Meriden-lol -spent the storm time watchin the Soccer game on TV. Hey- The Church pool is generally just the same but now has a kinda nice platform all on the West side where the big rocks used to be. Never fished from them myself but it looks like it will be packed with guys this season. The top kinda comes in and will make a bit of a backwater -IMHO -for a bit on the top of the run There was a hole there before too as I recall. It looks like the same place if not a bit narrower- kinda hard to tell though in only 185. They put in some rock steps all the way up to the road instead of that suicide dirt hill kinda pathway. Anybody falling on those steep steps is off to the ER for stitches but its much better than before.IMHO. Will be interesting to see how it affects that nice run below the pool down to Kiddie but first impressions are very positive. Same impression in the Town pool=very nice jobs.

If they come in via Florida or Louisiana, then that would be the perfect scenario. We would get about 3-4" of nice steady rain by the time they got here. Irene didn't have much time to calm down water wise because when it made landfall it was already above us. Im liking the weather picture building for next week, Labor Day may come thru for us after all.
