THE RUN

Sometimes you learn by lurking and seeing other perspectives and gather info not otherwise generally known. Such was the case recently when looking at another Forum on the SR.
'The Run' is a TV mini series starting next season on the SR-Several area guides and businesses are participating. Looks like kinda a reality show if some contributors are correct and perhaps an informative show if others are correct.
A number of opinions and observations have been made about it being a good or bad thing and about what may or may not be affected by it. General Forum talk kinda looking ahead- some good -some bad.
Personally I dont care what kinda show it is and hope it shines a light on this great fishery we enjoy and  produces some good things as the result.
Might wanna be on your best behavior if you see  cameras around this year.
Hope I got this right

make better tv if you have the idiots in full glory up there
it would fit right in with the rest of the crap that has been "reality" tv

but i do agree it is truely a world class fishery and we are lucky to have access to it

Trev, i admire your sheer honesty when it comes to lurking...lol... hey drove by your stomping grounds the other but didnt see you...

Im interested to see what this reality show is all about...

Could it be the beginning of the end........lol....

Really though, we all know that reality shows are more about the drama...and we all know there is more than a fair share of drama in oswego county when it comes to fishing

BB2010: maybe i'll catch ya on weekend of aug. 5th...

Know some outdoor guys who were on a TV reality show about businesses like theirs. They had the guys arguing and such with each other all the time while making the shows. Guess the 'friction' makes for better TV or something.
Knowing the guys as I do it was clear that it was put up stuff for the sake of the show. Think thats the 'rub' with folks wondering what  the SR will get.   Showmanship around a real experience or a documentary type about the fishery ????
Frankly either way I dont see it as a bad thing--------kinda look forward to it.
Cant wait for  the comments afterwards- like -'spot burning' and 'lifting' and such. Then again they could just set a camera up on the Tressel and make it a sick comedy about greed -law breaking and litter.

I agree with the Bear, just what we need more phony tv crammed down our throats..
Personally I see no good unless it's a Nat Geo documentary on the life cycle or biology of the fishery..
Who needs more Larry the Cable guys seeing how easy it is to "hook" a big fish in New York..  Don't we have enough Big Fish Tourneys already  ?

Since some of the area Tackle businesses and Guides are involved it may  be more of what you are saying Tuna. Just a nice series about the Fishery and some of the folks making a living at it.
Perhaps that too much to ask but one can only hope.
If it goes the other way one can only hope its done tastefully.

    hope so dime :)
lol, if the folks on that other site think the internet killed all their "secret" spots...what would a show like that do?
but i love to watch the circus that happens up there on a all too regular basis, so it could be interesting
but like tuna i'd rather watch a documentary style show

The article describing the TV show describes it as a four part mini series featuring the  Salmon run and  will feature the local businesses and the Village of Pulaski. Hey Bear--if there are any "secret spots" left on the SR please tell me about them---
Kinda looks like an informative series about the impact locally as the result of the annual 'run. I like that and think it to be a good thing.
Of course in the real world we all tend to think about the ever present 'reality' carp we see so much on TV.  There was no mention of that even though our suspicious minds tend to go that way- with good  reason considering thats what so much of TV has turned into.
I'm sticking with what  was described and looking forward to the series.
Then again it could turn out like 'Swamp People'. Tuna and Charlie could play those two brothers.
Goin up tonight for several days- might ask around and read any local stuff- will report.

    lol
no RG i don't think there are any secret spots
in fact if i'm up and get into fish i post (maybe even spot burn myself) but i think there are hundreds of great spots t fish not just one or two
but then i don't need a choke point to "catch fish" like some people do...
as far as secret spots on that other site...they think that there are, and if you notice the mods (atleast the original set) never post about where they are fishing or any other info
thats because all of that goes on in their mod sub board...but as far back as about 7 years ago they quit posting about thier trips or where they fish...btw they hit the south sandy a whole lot and a couple places on the north sandy...thats when they arn't getting free trips, drinks or meals for being the leaders of the "nation"

All they need to film is the trestle hole. It has everything, characters, fights, some segments that would remind you of the show COPS, and enough colorful dialogue to entertain the most stingiest critic. Done. Even Mike Rowe can jump in there and play with rotten salmon and garbage strewn streambanks for Dirty Jobs. I see a huge hit with that little slice of "heaven". Lol!

Sometimes I like to just sit and watch the show during the 'peak'. There is no place on Earth like the fence  overlooking Tressel on the North side-sometimes there are even cows walking through the parking lot-- lol.
Probably attracted to the Bull on the river.

Swamp people?  Don't ever come near me on the river again, Trevor.   I'm  confident I'm better read and as well  educated as yourself. I read this site, but, really have nothing to add to the treading water, off-season conversation. Nice to see some a-hole insult you when you aren't  participating. I won't waste my time any longer.   Enjoy the crowds and garbage.

OK you win, I give up..  Enjoy the vacation paradise, hope I never grow old enough to know it all

OK -- on the bright side- just got in from 5 days in SR country-(some of us go there often to enjoy the folks and the area- fish or not)  DRY doesnt even begin to describe. River at Summer low- Spey Nation had a huge crowd today--Golf courses are brown with dirt like concrete.  In my backyard the green leaves are falling every time the wind picks up a bit.
They need rain as bad as I have ever seen it up there.
Had several other paragraphs here-erased  them -guess its best said that what I meant as humor among folks I have chatted with and met a few times on the river is best -well -just not said.
If ya know me and  my stuff I make more  jest of myself and meant no harm whatsoever- Sorry it was taken so wrong and responded to like it was. WOW- no question bout intent there.. Never wanted  that here. I'll be dry as a popcorn phart from now on.
OK so = Good news on the upcoming TV 4 part series 'the Run". A great article on the front page of the Salmon River News describes it very well - sounds nice. They are looking for some fishermen to get involved  too so if your interested perhaps ya can look the News up on the putor and do so. Numbers and info all there.
Its not for a fly hacker like me but--sounds like a good thing. Many of you folks are accomplished river fishermen and it would be nice to see you there representing us all.

Too funny. Shoulda sent me a pm asking to call me a swamp rat. Lol.
Oh well , my response was pretty nasty . ??

See unlike all the transplants with second homes , we-I only have one reason to visit Oswego county. That be the fish. If ther were no lake run i would think the properties would still be vacant. I could think of no other reason why all those second home owners from various states buy into that area.
Please save the beautiful land stories , it's the fish that brought so many and it's the fish that after this joke of a tv show will bring more.

Still say nothing good except $$$ in people's pockets will come from the run and how will this benefit the fishery ? Don't think New York State is going to spend more because of it at all. Well maybe the profiteers will reach into their pockets and donate to the hatchery ? Yea ok..

Wellll different folks see things very differently- I LIKE Swamp People- I dont look down at them and call them names or diminish their life  style in any way whatsoever. I respect folks who percevere  and even have a smile while doing so.
Those two brothers are  my favorite people on the show-- they are always happy even in clearly difficult surroundings and always share their catch with family and friends and in their easy manner clearly understand how to exist in a hard  place. They do for others and make us chuckle watching them with their ready country wit and humor. I made a clear error comparing you to them- even in jest. It is indeed unfortunate that one of them passed recently.
I come from 'country folks' and am happiest around them- thats why I like Pulaski and the surrounding area even when the fishes arent there. Folks who hold doors for ya and say 'Good Morning' and actually mean it and seem to most always have a smile on their faces even in a tough economic environment. When I drive around folks actually grin and wave at ya.
Knock the Country folks and those of us who have camps or second homes up there all ya want- The fishes aint the reason we chose too be up there year round- It has to do with a lifestyle that some clearly dont comprehend and clearly never will.
Good folks-great country- there is much more to life than fooling a fish-

My humble  apologies RG, I read it wrong in the extreme. The backstory is I have a suspicion of anything on this board. I've taken more crap here than I've taken anywhere. From here out,  I either will stay positive or not  post at all. I have been fishing and just got back from a wilderness brookie backpack. It was phenomenal. Lots of bass this summer , sightfished carp, the occasional trout. Just got a incredible used deal on a  steelie line, as I cut my Rio Switch line on some ledge last spring and have it spliced. I just knew it'd let loose with a 15+ on. Not long now.  Mid-sept. for me, I'll be away doing a 60 mile   backpack  into the Golden Trout Wilderness the beggining of Sept. . Hopefully you guys save me a fish  or two and a place to stand!

Trev, I knew you were in jest and honestly take most of your posts with a grain of salt.
Really it didnt bother me at all except the reality tv. Those shows just reek of stereotyping people and I can't take them at all.
Didnt think I responded nasty just throwing some poop back. Lol

PA is right , fishing is what brought us to the area and this forum no matter how you slice it.
So along with the bs lets put on our happy face :) and talk fish.
I' been in RI since Friday and leaving here thurs. Fantastic weather, food and clamming.
Folks are catching some real nice fish at quon inlet and we are doing well clamming the pond.
I may have to go buy a rod & reel and throw a clam out in that inlet. Some real nice sea bass and other things which I have no idea are being caught . Looks like fun.

See you all in a few weeks. Gonna troll the big lake and hit the snakes in the estuary

    Nice to hear Tuna-
Hey dont rule out some small Eels or Sandworms as bait there. I prefer just throwing them into the generally swift current and letting them drift as far out as ya can.  Also the locals love to use white Jigs.  Only say small Eels cause smaller schoolie bass are sometimes there in abundance.
Be sure and check the size or even slot limits on Bass and any flat fishes. If your real lucky you may hit some Black fish which many  consider the best tasting fish ever. They are usually caught in rocky areas  using small green crabs cut in half as bait but will take a Sandworm.   They can be very common up there and generally need a specific Blackfish hook to catch them. The locals call them Tataug.
      Good luck
