Very nice buckets, browns and brookie.   I know that photos generally speak for themselves but details would help accentuate what looks like great fishing.

Look like nice, fat, healthy fish.  Holdovers or two year old stockies?
FYI-Hot tuna is playing on the Island and in Westchester towards the end of the month.  Caramoor, Katonah, NY is about 25 minutes from home.  I used to bow hunt on the estate right next door.

Ok here is the Skinny report..
    AuSable River West Branch..
That is , was my home waters as of 43 years.. Many things have changed, some not.. Most all for the betterment of the fishing for sure..
To me it is a WORLD CLASS Fishery, No Delli , Only BETTER..
It's a Popular , high profile river to say the least.. I gaurentee with all the fisher traffic it is SPOTLESS and the stewards take great care in their little heaven called the 6 million acre park.
95% are fly guys but have zero issues with a dirty ADK hippie fisher.. Honestly , most fish the wrong water but freindly folks who really could care less about internet reports.. First Class all the way..

    Report:
    Weather:
Rain, rain and cloudy sun shine.. PERFECT for fishing :
I think the high river level spike hit around 1,700.. PERFECT !!
This river flushes fast and little mud.. So it went up and down to a low of about 500, which I think is close to summer time , tough fishing low..  Don't ever be scared of fishing in a 2,000 flow on the AuSable.. All the better for the Kill area slow water Canoe, yak trip .. That's where the Big holdovers live.. Still !!

    Now 2 year stockies:
They are everywhere in the pocket water in Wilmington.. Tons of 14>17" fish in those sections.. Sad thing is they are all dead fish..
Winter WILL kill them unlike the slow deep waters from the Ski jumps to 86.. Thats just a fact.. Anchor ice in the wilmington area kills them all..

    Enough for now.. More later

Pic's 1& 2 are definitely stocked trout caught in the C& R section..
Chances are that any fish caught in the C&R are stocked.. Kinda boggles my mind because most all will not be around come next spring.. i worked hard in the early 90's to get then comish Michael  Zagata 1995 to stock 2 year old trout in the AuSable, which he did..
Only down side , they put most of them in the wrong place.. Oh well it worked well to revive the AuSable and turn that fishery into once again a place that made people want to come..

Pic's 3/4 & 7 are holdover fish caught in the Kill area which will hold over trout in the winter, no Anchor ice..

    Now as for Bugs:
If it didn't rain in the eve there was a very good March Brown and a FEW Green Drakes spinners around.. This took place between 7pm right through dark.. Fish were gulping them..
Mid day a golden stone or emerger in early eve worked well..
I'd say fish at dawn with spent spinners or late eve if you want to do the dry fly thing..
By 7am you'll need to work nymphs or rip streamers, shoot.. I threw 4" stick baits and slammed fish anytime I wanted..
Bigger fish are feeding on baitfish or leeches.. That will be key pretty soon..

    Nice bronzebacks HT.
There is a oriental guy that is always trying to hook into a few of those in a old impondment right around the corner from me,have no idea if he has any success because he speaks very little english.I know there are some lunkers in there as I see them when I walk my best friend around the pond, never tried fishing for them. With the temps pushing 100 F tomorrow I don't think I''l try it soon!

Grew up catching Carp & Stripers all in the same creek..
Fly fishing for them (both) in my creek is somewhat new to me.. Stripers started 5 years ago, carp 3..
Both ups and down with lots of learning to be consistent.. Still far from it..
Today I had some free time, Carp were there , my luck was not.. Big ZERO..

Only other out look toward fishing for me is clamming on RI next week if you call that fishing.. Good Eats and plenty fun so I'm happy..

Nice to see Clint keeping us updated on the fishing front..
    ..
    P.S.
I will be in the SR Region Mid Aug .. Fishing Estuary (before 15th reg change) for Pike/Bass and a week later trolling the Big Pond with Bro & his boat..
    See Ya then..

Hey Tuna-Good luck in RI -hope you get into some stripers or  blues on shore up there too. The outgoing tides  where the water runs back into the ocean out of the Salt ponds can be great.  Love to drift small size eels or sand worms in that water. If nothing else at least the sand worms bite.
