Salmon, Sept 10th?

Is that too early to fish the stream near the mouth? also, are charters still going out?

It's not too early but it could be hit and miss.
There will be charters running then.

Charters often do quite well at that time of year on staging fish just outside the mouth of various spawning waters such as the SR.
If your thinking bout it might want to reserve early as they can get quite busy. Gotta dice roll on the weather but------
Take a peek at the lake reports on the forums from that time last year- Believe most of it is archived.
A coupla day trip will allow you to get someplace low like the DSR at that time for a day too and perhaps hit some earlies in the river- but like they say -thats spotty.
Gotta remember lotsa the talk here is from those of us fortunate enough to be on the SR very often trough the year and the reports from folks who have limited time may  have a very different perspective.
Actually lake charter reports are very good even right now.

Depending on the water levels and conditions there always seems to be an early run of fish around Labor Day. Fish will start to gather near the estuary sometimes taking weeks before they make their move. I have seen fish stacked up underneath the Route 3 bridge in the first week of September.

Thanks for the info. The plan is to fish the dsr on the lower portion of the river. Becauase of planning, we'll have to make this trip early around the 10th. Just hoping to make it work ont he early part of the run.

Any charter recommendations for a day or half day?

You will have a very good chance of fish in the dsr at that time. Be there bright and early. There have been more times than i can count on maybe 2 hands where i have hit decent pods or runs at that time with some being large runs. Dont get too excited though. It is never a gaurantee. The following weekend is almost always a sure shot. Have you ever fished salmon before. If not, keep tuned in to this forum. You should be able to get a decent grasp of what/how to do it. Good luck

thanks Dime. Yes, I have experience. I used to live in Alaska and Kings were by far my favorite fish. I'm always looking to learn techniques and how to fish a certain river though. I will be tuning in as the summer progresses to gather info. Thanks again.

Hi Bodi, Capt. Dave here, I run a full time Charter service out of the Salmon river, just west of pulaski.  This time is very good for lake fishing, I run until the end of Sept.  If interested check out my website at  http://www.reelsilvercharters.com/  I've been fishing lake Ontario for over 27 years...Oh, there's lot's of videos and pictures and info
    Thanks
    Capt. Dave

My first visit every year is august 14, really slapped the salmon on that day years back and continue to go up on that day now. Almost went up last week with the drift boat and the high water for some summer plugging, lots of fun can be had early before the crowds show up. Watch the weather and keep an eye on water line and this site, youll know when they hit the river, pulled salmon out of clarks falls in july, you never know!
