April fool spottings

Went up late yesterday didnt launch till 11, thought it might be a better float being late on a sunday, WRONG! Cars, trucks & trailors parked 3 deep at the lower fly zone launch and a nice cold rain/snow to boot. We were just plugging and managed to squeeze in a few spots but no takers, floated thru muskrat and two guys were about coming to blows cant tell you what the one guy was saying cause it wasnt english but the other guy used language I understood, basically he said f-u alot. Well we get all the way to the root hole and not a hit, two guys in the tail hole and knowbody up top so we let them out and after 10 or so minutes those guys down below us leave. We pull them up run down tuck in behind the tree across the river and let them out, dont even go 20 yards and crackdown she does about 3 cartwheels and comes off. Swith all my lures to that or similar colors and within 20 more yards another crackdown but comes off quick. I pull anchor and get into my row and two guys come out of the woods walk down and one guy goes and fishs behind us witch is cool as I work down the hole is yours, the other guy goes down in front of me 30 or so yards and starts casting and running his float right in my drift. Well we smack a good one and she puts on a show comes to net and we release her let the rods back out and Im coming down as I have the right to and this guy keeps casting untill Im even with him then hes giving me the fish eye so I chuckle at him and drift by. Go thru the fridge and I get up front and let Cody row a little got a quick pull and gone. I jump back in to go thru the snag and as we come thru and let the rods out we hear yelling and hooting, Im thinking what next when this guy in a bright yellow rain suit with his 3 buds comes around the bend into sight. They are crossing where people do below the can and I go by on the other side drift down a little and let the rods out they are behind us now and start yelling and hooting again, I tell Cody dont even look back we dont need any trouble and people seem to be a bit testy today. Well they start throwing tree limbs and crap in the river and keep yelling and walking down the river bank towards us, couple of limbs almost take a rod out and we get the final crackdown of the day, just as Im clearing the last rod the fish comes off smallest of the day about 6lbs but leaped 4 times. Cody says let them out I said hell no Im getting out of here people are freakin crazy today! Went 1 for 5 landing a really big spawned out hen and having 1 other on that was at least as big,  a  quick swing and miss and a leaping 6lbr. Despite the buttheads a pretty good day, and it snowed harder than any other day Ive been on the river all winter! 3

How do you go through the fridge before you go through the snag? Maybe somebody got a committee together and renamed all the pools again!

Sounds like a bad case of the Drake virus infected the shoreline that day! Glad to hear there were no casualties, at least in the boat.

285 is to low to float my boat, I can do it with two guys but you drag alot. I need around 500 to make the lures work right, I bring casting rods but rarely throw anything, they see more beads and flys in a day I like to offer a large hunk of shiney metal! When the bite is right you cant beat the slam they give them rods, never gets old!

3fan, I never thought that pulling plugs in a boat would be a preference of mine... until you took me down...you are right about the slam...seeing that rod tip just about hit the water is pretty freekin cool man. I must say though, the slam on a swung wet or streamer is a bit more favorable for me. But I am not a discriminating fisherman. I like catching them all ways. Have you ever tried rapalas from the bank? Especially along undercuts on a straight upstream retrieval... theslam is just as adrenalizing as the hot shots. My next trial is gonna be a bubble gum yamasenko
wacky riggedin size 3 or 4"...something tells me it could be a hot bait at certain times...

Unfortunately we may not see your favorable flows before seasons end. I guess time will tell. Later...

Dime them smallies love them hotshots to, just different colors and they slam them pretty good also. I love the take on a swung streamer but do most of that during the salmon season till the chrome come in hot for the lures, now Im thinking of dry flys and sipping trout on the deleware, course I did just get a new driver and have been enjoying some rounds at the country club. So much to do so little time! Peace

The Delaware EB, WB and main stem along with the Beaverkill and Willowemoc are showing prolific early hatches of Quill Gordons, Blue & Red Quills, Hendricksons, stones and caddis. The Housatonic is also reporting fish rising to Hendricksons. Should be a spinner fall in the next week if not sooner. Hendrickson hatch is a full month ahead of schedule. I wonder if that means an early March Brown hatch, Green Drakes also? Very strange.

Hey Dime, let me know how my creation works with the smallies. Heading up to Rochester for a charter on the 15th for some lake browns. May stop on the way back home to fish the Big "D" and the Beaverkill. Happy Easter/Passover to all.
