Skulls

anyone know of anybody in the greensburg area that has flesh eating beatles used to clean skulls?

I tryed boiling my buck skull and after running out of propane for the grill, stinking up my porch, and skinning most of it off im looking for an easier way to finish it. ionly need the brains taken out of it and couple other parts. If anyone has any advice on how to make it easier ill be very happy

Dad hung a bunch of antlers out on tree branches to let the bugs get to the skin he let on their heads.  Too bad the squirrels ate some of the antlers.  What a dumas.     He had them out all summer and fall.  The antlers looked very aged now.  I was looking at some european mounts the other day.  Taxidermist had a skull in a fish tank with the beatles.  They almost had it gone.  She charges like $175 for that.

I tried letting the maggots clean out a snapping turtle skull once.  It was working pretty good, till I saw my dog chewing on something.  Took it away from him, but it disappeared for good a couple days later.

Scrape with wire brush and knife as you go,,,,,fill up with clean water,,,,,and one cup of lanudary detergint...with bleach................ boil,,,remove and scrape as you go till clean,,,will dry very white and clean,,,the secret is a good wire brush,,,,stainless steel!! js

thanks guys. i talked to a guy that said i could cutt the bottom of the skull off and scrape the brains out like that and that would also make it sit nicer on a board.

If your interested I have a friend near Erie that has the beetles and does it for $60. I have gone the do it yourself route on bear and deer but you don't get as nice a job and the thin bone tends to disingerate over time when boiled.

I used to boil and all that, but found out if you just bury the whole head and leave it go for a year it comes out real nice, just make sure you put some wire mesh over it to keep the critters away.

hang the skull in a tree off a piece of rope. that's what i did with my bear skull way back when. make sure you put a bowl or something underneath in case the teeth come out. if you want to be real creative, put it in a collender and hang it. the maggots will drop off, thru the collender and now you got bait for fishing
