3/18
Went up today for only 2 hours. Crowds were low for the most part, people in the usual places, but even then not as many as last weekend. The church pool was empty. I fished there. With amount of water going through, I tried the softer edges of the faster water and I had plety of room to try to swing a few. No luck and no takers. From the guys I talked to at the bridge it was slow all around. Drove by some of the local tribs and there were plenty of cars there so a few people are off the river. Went to the hatchery and it is LOADED. Saw many monsters up there too, rest assured there are plenty of big steel there. There were also many fish making it past the green gate which was surprising to see. Maybe go up a day during the week if the water comes down a bit.

Thanks for the report clint. You should take a peak at the small water fall right across the street from the hatchery entrance. There's a spot on the right that you can pull over on the northbound side of rt. 22. All of the fish that get up past the green gate congregate below the little water fall. Its quite a sight to see.

Spear??? We tend to use pitch forks up here. Either that or bailing twine and a Michigan cricket.

A gaff with a 20' handle works pretty well. Some spots you don't even have to get out of the truck

I went up Saturday and met my friend at the LFZ (I had forgotten about the unpredictable-FOG-in my drive time calculations) There was a pretty good crowd in the LFZ, and a full conga line along the gravel just below the Cty Rt 22 bridge. The rest of the river was light 4-5 cars at Trestle, Pineville,Sportsman's, 2a. Went down into town and had it all to ourselves for the PM. ~1600 in town was rough, and we went 0 for 0. But now he knows how to find the place, how long it takes to drive, and has a few ideas about where to go when he is up there, and how to read the water he encounters. He reported getting a lot of pointers from the two guys that were DS from him on the first bend in the LFZ before I got there, thanks guys. Other than losing my sunglasses, and the difficulty in that amount of water,it was a great day. My hat tip goes to all the flyfishing pigs of the last winter and this early spring. I don't care if an orange peel is biodegradable, it is still YOUR unsightly garbage as it rots away on the river bank because you were too lazy to carry a bag and get it to the trash can. But the guy that took a dump on the back side of the bigrocks on a rock in the LFZ parking lot wins the Bobby prize for A****** of the SEASON. L13

WOW 1800 tomorrow. There will be no trips up there this week for me with that much water coming through. If I had time I would be going up north though, maybe this weekend.

HT- This was what I saw inthe LFZ. Fly fishers are supposed to have a little more class. And for all the people who say they are cleaning it up, the two pair of waders are still up there that were there last November. I didn't have a bag or gloves, next time I'll try to be more of a boyscout. There was less trash down in town (maybe less fishers.) L13

L13 I must admit that I hate bringing "classifications" in to fisher types... I will add though that I notice more friendly anglers fishing the lower river. You could be right with the less angler to river ratio....but shhhhhhhh.....let's try to keep it that way HT, gonna be up this Sunday and Monday and also the following weekend. Let me know if you'll be around... as well as anyone else

This is not a bash on anyone, and even if it is only 25% of people that litter, it's what you get when you inject a bunch of people in a place that are "on vacation" and there to have fun. These folks do not care about anything but being selfish and having fun. Add to that, that they do not have to look at it every day because it is not in "their" back yard and you have a mess. Look at concerts, state fairs and field grounds , stadiums after a game and even the side of the road, they are covered in trash. My wife will not even let me throw peanut shucks on the floor at a baseball game. Until they start revoking fishing rights and/or giving out stiff fines (and enforcing it) it will happen. On a local trib there was a tree with probably 20 Dunkin Doughnut cups hung in the branches, they thought it was cute to keep adding to it. If I was the farmer that owned the property I would shut it down quicker than anything. I also would like to know if there is a litter issue in the DSR like on the public river, never fished there so I don not know. Back on the fishing I just noticed we are inching closer to that magic #, we are now at 39

agreed.. i dont buy the stereo type.. Being a Prez don't mean i'm less then human..we all screw up, it's how you resolve the mistakes.. maybe I'll pull those waders out this week.. they have gotten closer to the lot though.. I fished down low, guess where junk flows.. Was out on the mighty hudson & trib this eve.. I think a massive smokey burn is in order to clean up the shoreline.. We each can do just a little more and need less PIGS to make things better.. BTW.. I have yet to buy terminal tackle for the SR.. Dumb azzes just throw it away on the shore..
