Took a long ride today resevoir is LOW found a pic from 1/27
Had to run some errands in Pulaski and forgot my boots and gear so I took a long ride today. Grindstone creek estuary. Fished it for a bit. Only had the fly on the rod. Nothing doing here. Salmon river estuary DSR 5 cars in the lot Town pool no one fishing Altmar below the bridge it was packed there LFZ stayed for 5 minutes or so saw 3 hook ups Church pool at 1:30 I SOOOOOO wanted to stay there was no one there Salmon river falls notice no water coming over Jackson road boat launch on Upper res. Notice the small creek coming in you could see the water flowing . This is to the right of the launch. I never knew it was there. That area is usually 8 feet deep here. Bridge in Redfield Upper upper res Notice the water lines on the bridge. The res is at a VERY CONSERVATIVE guess 6 to 8 feet lower than it should be this time of year. I could see current flowing in places I have only seen in the dog days of summer after a month without rain. I honestly have not seen it this low in quite a few years and then that was in the summer. There very little snow in Redfield for run off and if we do not get rain soon, and alot of it, flows will be WAY down.

Great pics, Clint. We may have caught an actual last push of fish upriver for awhile. Glad we went when we did. Thanks for the tour. Thanks for answering my questions about the area, I really appreciate the local knowledge. Charlie

Clint, thank you for the tour :) That reservoir is really low and there is n't a ton of snow on the ground to fill it,maybe it'll start to rain one of these days.Locally in SE Pa. the streams are real low. It looks like late spring early summer flows, the trout season opens here the end of month and it is going to be awfull if it does n't rain and the ten day does n't hold much promise.

Thanks for the up to date info clint...grindstone looks like it has decent flow out in to the lake. These seasons are definitely very odd the past 2 years... like jack said, hopefully some rain comes. If not, there will be some pretty widespread draught conditions in most of the tri-state and northeast area... time will telll

Clint, that pic of the church pool makes me want to go up there. I would have been on the other side of you at that hole.

Clint thanks for the pic's.. Looks pretty sweet for early March.. Well weather wise , not so much water wise.. G-stone seemed to have a little out flow with the rain we got weds but still , need to get those sand bars under water for some fish to enter.. Would be nice if they dredged it out a little (imo).. Fichy may be quite right, unless some big rains come the fishing may be slow.. Generally once the estuary becomes ice free that signals a push after that it's just a matter of whats left out there.. While I know the flows are down the water tables are good.. We have had a pretty wet late fall through winter, just no snow pack.. I think the east will be ok at least for a while.. ssgt12, I'm sure we have crossed paths.. with such a nice day and week ahead I hear that tractor calling you .. lol.. Thanks again Clint, hope to see ya soon..

I was on the other site and take a look at the pics to tell where the water should be this time of year. My guess now would be 10 plus feet low. They were taken on 1/27

Rumor has it the upper reservoir is gaining alot of water as the snow/ground melt off continues. 3fan, have you been taking advantage of these higher flows with your boat and plugs? I imagine its just about that time

Hey Dime, I actually have been rideing my snowmobile last couple of weekends. Bought it new this spring figured I try for some mileage before it all melts. Got a trip planned for friday, buddy called last night as I got home from the village board meeting, fun. Been staying away from this site for the most part, the bull**** was getting way to thick for my taste, glad to see it appears to be back to fishing. All the ice is off oneida lake and the perch have been slammin, big boat is going into her slip very soon Looks like its spring.

Is this why they are letting so much water out? It has been 1200 CFS for the last couple of days at least.

Gerry, the flow right now is typical for this time of year. at this point there's probly more water coming into the reservoir than coming out. but there is barely any snow left for it to get much higher than this. Unless we get biblical type rain, This spring steelhead season is going to be a bloodbath With no flood waters to push the mass amount of drop backs back to the lake. My brother and I were just taljing about how Much pressure there will be Along with the mass amounts of fish there will be. I imagine it could go down in the record books. I am going to try to stay away from the crowds and hit the lower river in my late season efforts. tightlines to you... John, hope you hit em good this friday. Its perfect water for an angler like yourself

I would have thought they would give it a bit to let the upper fill before letting out 1200. I do not think it is about power production because I think I remember reading somewhere that 500 or 750 cfm is all they need for production, anything over that just goes through he wast gates.

ORIGINAL: Clint S I hope so Dime I do a some fishing up there in the summer. I hope the best also clint. Never targeted the upper reservoir myself. Have heard you can drive your truckout on it in dry summers though. Its quite a waterway... its like a feast or famine deal... its a shame the headwater can't retain a larger volume of water than it does
