Spinning Reel for Noodle Rod

I'm in the market for a new spinning reel on my noodle rod. I'm looking for suggestions. I'd like to stay under $50 and I'll be using Powerpro to spool it. I've been doing some research but they all seem good when reading a manufacturers description. Any ones you guys have used to stay away from completely, or that you'd recommend?

Thanks Loomis...it will be in fact for steelhead. What would you suggest then?

I have an abu cardinal on my noodle rod right now, its cheap and has held up fairly well. It's probably about 6 or 8 yrs old, the drags getting a little choppy though. But w a 10'6" lt action I still rarely break off even w 4lb line. Presidents are very nice, I have 1 on one of my bass rods and like it.

i like the sedona's...but fully understanding that i will burn them up and trash them in a year or two

the new brownings have a good drag and work well
for me its all about balancing with my rod so i take it in to BP and mess around til i get a combo i like

I've used an older model of the shimano Sedona in the 4000 series for the last 3 years and I've been satisfied with it.  The one thing I would do is take the rod with you when you go and get the size reel that balances best with your rod.

Buy whatever you think will fit your situation best.  I'm with a previous poster though.  If the cheaper reel burns out in a few years go buy another new one and start over.

I've never seen any mention of it but are the drags etc. built better on the larger size reel or do they have more surface areas to provide a better drag?

I've been buying trions for the past 5 years love them but they will burn out with a lot of fishing rather quickly. As for the best reel for the money. I would keep up to date on Cabela's and wait for the next time US Reels go on sale to under 50 I now own three and I will keep buying them as long as them make them. They have a very consistent drag and lots of spool capacity with a "braid bar" made of rubber so if you want to use braid it will fill to the top with 100 yards while you can take it off for mono. Also a spare spool same as original all metal, can't beat a quality, American made product

When you call them ask for wormwaster if he's still there and tell him what size rod you plan on putting the reel on.  I would still suggest a larger size reel.  If you plan on holding it all day a balanced outfit will feel much better at the end of the day.  On my noodle rod I use the 4000 series plus I have 2 ounces of lead epoxied into the rod butt.

I have all four of the pflueger's, trion, president, supreme, and supreme xt. Don't buy the trion if you think you might (accidently) drop it in the water (unless you enjoy ripping apart your new reel that isn't quite water or sand proof). I like the president just not as smooth as the supreme. Don't waste your money on the supreme xt's, not worth the difference between supreme and supreme xt. I hate to ask if its for this year right around now your paying retail. I've bought all my pfluegers on black friday sales. Trion $25.95, President $35.99, Supreme $47.99, Supreme xt $74.99. Awesome deals for all the reels and like them all but hands down the regular supreme is the best bang for the buck.

tt, i would take the advice that loomis gave to heart, even if it means waiting a bit for your reel purchase. i have had sedonas and liked them a lot, but i most often used them for crappies and walleyes usually under twenty inches. when it came to bigger fish, i stepped up to either a shimano symetre or quantum pt 20s. if i had it to do all over again, i would have gone with the stradics. the better drag systems will save you money and grief in the long run.

Thanks cold. It's not that I'd have to save up for an expensive reel. I could purchase one today if I needed to. It's the face that I use the rod maybe 3 times a year at the absolute most. I'm lucky if I get 2 trips a year to steelhead fish. Being the rod will sit most of the year I can't justify spending that much on a reel.

If I was going to fish consistently or even at least 5 times a year with it then maybe it would be worth it to me. I'm leaning towards the Pleuger President at this point....on the cheaper end of things but not an $80 reel either.

I've Pflueger supreme xt for steelhead and it does not compare to the quality of a quantum at all.

The Pti30 I have is incredible, I dont think i will ever buy any reel other than a quantum hands down
