how about the guy asking what the deer ate in the 70s and 80s.. now there's a guy who knows deer and their habits....

and a guy STILL thinking it's about the insurance business...

Or how about that NO ONE mentioned ARs and their effect on the harvest numbers...
and of course guys comparing to the "good old days" and not mentioning herd reduction reduced the herd around 40%..

And my favorite.. the guy who said we are only harvesting mature deer because there are no "young Deer"...

    same old BS....

Did any one say they were or had quit though..... which was the theme of my post..????

By and large people dont care about deer management, they just want to see and shoot deer. When that doesnt happen, they quit hunting

Which makes it even better for us guys who are still successful year after year..

I said it over 10 years ago and I'll say it again Pa deer hunting will someday soon be just like deer hunting in Texas... It will take money and your own property... or at best a lease

Must be anybody can post their opinion on the one you put up Doc. There is a older woman from India, a member of the Defenders of Wildlife and HSUS, and a self proclaimed Goth that doesn't know if he/it is a man or a woman. Opinions are like A///oles, everyody has one.

Just found it surfin... deer subjects

BTW I find Reilly's article funny...

From early muzzleloader season, through archery season until I shot my buck and on through the recently ended firearms season, I hunted 10 days on two properties in Chester County.

IMHO 10 days is not alot for all those weeks..

Plus I like the fact he says he killed one of the only 2 deer (both bucks) he saw that year in the early part of the November archery season...

But it did not stop him from going out looking for a female in rifle season, or buying a tag for one to fill, even though he's complaining about a lack of deer on those two properties ... you have to have an un-used deer tag to be out in rifle season hunting...

It's things like that in articles or comments from hunters I look for before I put any faith in what they are saying.. and thus give them little credit for a valid point...

While I would agree, you have to remember that not all the folks have it like you and I do. We are both retired or semi retired, we both are hunting from the time we step off the porch, and it is a significant part of who we are. Hunting for me is a 365 day a year obsession.

The normal hunter is not nearly as obsessed, has to work, has other things that he enjoys as much or more than hunting, and finds what time he can. To him, investing 10 full days is a lot and he expects results and normally got positive results.
He is the one who has always paid the most for the least return on his money while guys like us got the maximum return.
He is also the one who will be the first to drop out taking his money with him and the PGC cannot function as the PGC without him. Pennsylvania wildflower Commission or Pennsylvania songbird Commission perhaps but not Pennsylvania Game Commission.

I too would have fit under the OBSESSED with deer hunting.I hunted NY,WV.Ohio an PA. for years and years.I really don't know I had the time for it all.I do know I have a great wife that raised our childeren in my DEER CRAZED YEARS,she put up with a lot and still does but now the Whitetail doesn't run me,yes I still hunt more than most but I'm down to Pa. and Ohio. It's still a big part of who I am,but there are other things in life now that are important.I really don't know why my wife stuck it out but I'm glad she did,I fished Erie 2 1/2 days a week for 15 years and many trips to Olcott NY for Salmon some times for two weeks straight, then hunt deer in 4 states from bow to flint. Not much time at home.I have had a great life doing what I love.

Is there a cure? I also have deeritus. Hunting in general. I start hunting in sept and dont quit until late feb. When deer seasons are in, that's what I focus on. Maybe throw a couple days hunting squirrels with my 70 yr. old uncles.
