Ya, those clamp on rod holders arent so hot...
Im not sure if your boat has an actual flat gunnel surface where you can bolt down some rod holders or if its just narrow strip of aluminum. Either way i think you should still be able to get some good rod holder bases bolted on there. A good solid base bolted on the gunnel with a removable rod holder is the way to go. As far as what type it all depends on what you are doing. I would recommend a aluminum tube style. You gonna wanna stay away from plastic clamp ons. They arent very sturdy and kinda clumbsy. The tube style aluminum holders will hold up to the drag of a dipsy and are easy to get your rod out of in a hurry. You also gonna want a holder that spins and has a angle adjustment.
I have 4 tight-lok multi-lok rod holders i would probaly give away for next to nothing. They are like new. They were on my old boat. My new boat has a berts track system on it. They arent compatable. You can look up the tight-loks on cabelas if you like. PM if i can help with any more input.

Thanks alot eyedreamn. Those tight-loks you have can you remove them from the base easily. I do alot of pan fishing with my kids and dont want something else for them to get their line tangled around.

The low profile bases are bolted on. The bases are only 1.5" square and about 3/8" high. They stay, but the rod holders are removed wirh a allen key.

I bought 4 Folbe rod holders for my Alumacraft Navigator 165 Classic and like them a lot. Mounts are available for top or side mounts. I got the side mounts and they work perfectly. Easy to install and strong enough to troll for any fresh water species.
