Not presque but if you have a boat the warmer weather works to your advantage say guys out a month ago by the coke plant wouldn't be surprised if there inshore feeding

well anywhere on the lakeshore or in the bay flats are great for smallies come spring. I personally fish where there's some vegetation to get both large and smallmouth bass

LEDGES..find ledges as well lots of points in the bay just use instinct. Don't focus on spot that turns off the fish are everywhere in the spring

Don't stick to one bait either, I throw the whole box at them most of the time. Also don't be afraid to try deep points not just shallow. One of my best trips was trying to catch residential walleye in the spring and we were marking tons of fish in 38 FOW. Caught 4 smallies in a matter of 10 mins dropped anchor just off the point and slaughtered them all day

As stated above:Find some structure and anchor or drift real slow with a drift sock and your trolling motor.Try working jigs with plastics or blade blaits. You can do real well drifting with good sized chubs, small suckers etc..If you just use minnows the Gobies will kill you. We used go go out of NE and fish 14-30' of H2O until we found them. You can expect a lot of hook ups with nice sized fish up to 5+lbs.

I've never had Gobies take my minnows. Usually the Rock Bass get to them before the Smallies

I hope to do a lot more of the smallie fishing this year as well. They sure are fun on light tackle. 

My personal best is 6-11 and my dads is 8-4. Many 50 + days out of erie and NE.
