Was out yesterday with the Matthews. Been seeing a group of 8-9 in the same place every night doing the same routine. Last night was no different. I got up the hill and ahead of them about 150yds and waited. I positioned myself behind a a freshly fallen oak with leaves still on it and felt confident in the setup, wind and cover. They slowly fed towards me and soon surrounded me on both sides, within 20 yds. I didn't want to shoot a button buck so it was hard to move and distinguish which ones had nubs and which ones didn't with so many eyes. Well, the 3 big mommas stayed behind the blow down at 40 yd and ended up spooking when a couple little ones got down wind of me. What a rush though. When I stood up I couldnt' feel my legs for at least 5 min since they were so numb. Will be out tomorrow to try again. They are getting incredibly smart this late in the season and staying within 75 yards of the houses until dark. This all took place about 60 yards from a back yard.
