Januray 12th deer photos =

These deer were at my spot #2, where I just put out a half dozen ears of corn. It is also the place I watched the squirrels carrying some off, so I did get these photos but tonight I just put out shelled corn...

I found it interesting that it looks like three different groups of deer, none of which are the ones in the back-yard feeders...

Approximately 1:45am =

Approximately 4:45am =

Approximately 5:55am = this looks like "tuff's" group

My favorite of all the photos from last night ==

I have started my winter supplemental feeding and have noticed the deer are not showing up at all like they have in the past and I am wondering why.

Last year I started feeding about this same time and the deer started first showing up anywhere from 4:30 pm to 5:30pm. It was still light enough I could get a few photos, though many were not of a great quality because of the darkness.

This year they are not showing up until at least 1:30 am, long after we have "turned-in".

I realize this has not been a typical winter, very little to no snow accumulations lasting more than day .. could that be the clue ??

    what's your thoughts

I would say that the small amount of snow we have had this year so far plays a big role in their feeding habits. It would seem that more food sources would be readily available when there is no significant snow accumulation.

I still can't believe that you haven't had any bucks show up on camera. We generally get lots of bucks on camera when we start feeding after the season, albeit most are small.

    Nice pics by the way.

This spring we had a few small bucks show up in the back yard eatng the berry bushes.. but never had a buck with any antlers at the feeders in 20+ years for any winter corn feeding ????

Don't know why ... I still think the bucks just do not come up on top, they stay in the hollow unless the rut is on, then they run through my fences almost every night ????
