Yea. Finally some snow here. Problem is supposed to be gone by the weekend.  I hunted yesterday but we really didn't have snow cover till very late in the day.  And when it came it was a whiteout.

Tomorrow should be a great day to be in the woods for those that are off work or can go.

Yea we had vistors last night or very early (still dark)this morning, there tracks everywhere in our yard and less than 5 feet from the house, the(doe) herd was browsing on the shrubs. If it warms up a little I may hunt this afternoon but tommorow for sure. My son saw the 6 pt chasing a doe at dusk last night, the rut still on. lol But really I've seen all kinds of new rubs behind the house since gun season.

Well it was a bit nippy...LOL
Sat the first hour....4 squirrels within 12 feet.....
I think they wanted to snuggle up.

Took a stroll and 5 jumped up on the opposite side of the hollow.

Found one bedded in a small brush plot, about 3 acres, in the bottom of this 40 acre Posted field..... I snorted a few times and holy SH*T 12 took off running.

Wish I could have sat the afternoon they were out feeding...BUT it was the sons birthday....

    Back to work tomorrow..................ARGH

    Next outing will be Monday

Saw a lot of canine tracks in the snow today-- Northern 2B.  Probably coyotes but could be local dogs.  Guess I should get a trail cam to figure it out.  Any other way to tell?

Coyotes tracks are smaller than a dog.Dog tracks are rounder and cotes are a little oval shaped (or pointed)4 toes and a back pad just like a dog.I was flint lock hunting today and saw quite a few coyote tracks and 9 doe,no bucks.I could have shot 2 adult does at 20 yards but passed.

Dog tracks are round while a coyotes tracks are more oval. Generally a dog’s track will display all four toenails while a coyote track will generally only show the nails on the middle two toes.

Had 15 doves going to town on it yesterday......
Wife loves to see the birdies.......

Odd no turkeys seen yet......they always show up in January.
No squirrels in the yard either....

Eman......I think I would pass on him too....
A Friend said he saw the "big one" about a mile up the hollow this past week sneaking around after sunset...and a guy saw a ten running last Saturday.....

I have to laugh, several of my friends have been hunting doe and seeing "0"..
I am rack hunting and seeing does every time out...

Same here WAGS, I've been out 5 times and saw 30 doe and 0 bucks. I swore not to shoot a doe, bucks or bust. Can I keep passing on doe? I'm getting soft,I ran into the same doe and fawn twice yesterday, The second time was a chance you don't get often 10 yards. The fawn goes over the the doe and want to nurse, the doe nudges her away, then they get together and lick each other nose. SOMEBODY thinks your baiting in your yard? If anyone knows about baiting he would.Good luck. To the last two buck hunter bucks or bust.

I hear ya Big Tuna, if I was that desperate and need to hunt over bait, I have a 50' pine that is 20 feet to the left of that buck in the picture. I could cut out a couple branches put up my ladder stand and no one would know I was up there.....AND I wouldn't need night vision as the motion detector lights(3-150 watts) would give me enough light...
    OR
My Lab died 2 years ago and his house is heated and 25 feet behind that buck

    WAIT A MINUTE
....Big Tuna..... is what the heck have I been doing wrong all these years........

    NO kills for 20 years......LOL....

HOWEVER, it might be hard to explain that blood trail in the snow ...LOL.......
    (Unless someone has some suggestions)

    I don't really need the meat....own a restaurant....{HHMMM.. New Special???}

    Wags..

So sorry you took my little "quip" about the corn the wrong way...I put laughing faces behind the remark hoping everyone would know it was meant as a joke... I mean it's pretty obvious it is not a corn field .. BUT there are those that always have the B.S. to post in a reply about me rather than add anything interesting to the conversation..

Sorry to see you joined their ranks !!!

Doc.....I took no offense to your "quip", and I don't know what you mean by your comment "joining the ranks."

I have only been on this sight a few months, so I do not know anyone here personally......

I am here to hear some fellow hunters stories, opinions, and their comments.....

Me poking fun at baiting was not directed AT you, but in response to writing you see corn.

Is there corn in my front yard YES........Do I hunt on my land ..NO

I do hunt the 50 acres behind mine and the 50 acres across the street....
I like not adding the cost of fuel and the time traveling to my passion for hunting and the outdoors. Heck if the creek in the front yard was a little bigger I'd fish here too.

I HUNT for the enjoyment of the outdoors......
Check my previous post......I own a restaurant.....I don't need the meat to feed the family.

    Wags..

glad to see you understand I was just joking about seeing corn in your photo

I should have known others would try to make it into a huge debate about feeding deer

If the food is gone before hunting there I have no problem with anyone increasing their odds of harvesting or keeping deer in their area...

welcome to the boards... and once again thanks for sharing the phhto...

Big Wags - I don't mean to belabor the point, but if you are placing feed on your property you are very likely influencing the movement of deer on the small, adjacent properties you are hunting.  The baiting laws are somewhat gray and an argument could easily be made that deer can be enticed a long distance, especially this time of year.  These calls are made at the officers' discretion and if I were you I would be fully prepared to pay the fine if a WCO drops by.

I agree with Essox, I would not hunt to close either.

I have heard of WCOs fining people for up to a quarter mile away from a bait pile...

But as mentioned it is up to the WCO..

I'm done hunting here so that is why I put the corn out..

even though the adjoining property is SGL there has not been a hunter there since the third day of rifle season except me...

so I can't see my feeding effecting anyone...

nothing showed up today either, but I did notice at one spot near some beechnut trees a couple ears of corn are totally gone.. not even cobs left ... I think the local two gray squirrels may have carried them away ...

Thanks for the input...... I have stopped the corn ---for 2 weeks...just going with the sunflower seeds and millet...
Last night I saw a few feeding @4 pm. We had some in the yard at 7pm,11,pm and again at 3am.
3am 3doe and the 5 + 1.....well the one doe turns out to be a button buck...
He nuzzled up to the buck, then they both put their foreheads together and starting pushing. The 5+1 gave the little guy a flip with his rack and then they nuzzled again. All in good fun----for now......
Had 6 ( in 3 waves 7-9-11) in so far tonight....they licked all the bird seed off the box I put it on. They spent an hour or more eating the green grass. All this warm weather and the yard looks like it wants to start to grow.....

I did hunt this morning and saw nothing....I think the full moon had them foraging all night......
Heading out tomorrow and trying an old spot I used to hit a few years ago. It is where I sent the 12 thru last week and 1/2 mile from where the 12 pt. has been hanging out.....

I think that ANYBODY that puts up a feed station ajoining SGL or any other public land should to fined and their names printed in the paper. What has happen here is that every single hunter that enters that game land is in jepordy of hunting near bait rather 1/4 mile or 1 foot from the bait site. That entire area needs to be reported and flagged off as a baiting site. To think these kinda people call themselves sportsmen.
