No More displaying licenses =

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe today applauded the enactment of legislation that will remove the requirement for hunters and trappers to display their licenses on an outer garment. The law takes effect in 60 days.

House Bill 735, sponsored by Rep. Keith Gillespie (R-York), was unanimously approved by the House on June 15, and was approved by a vote of 46-3 in the Senate. Gov. Tom Corbett signed the bill into law today, which will take effect on Feb. 13.

“Since 2003, the Game Commission has been supporting various drafts of legislation sponsored by Rep. Gillespie and Rep. Neal Goodman (D-Schuylkill) to remove this antiquated requirement,” Roe said. “With today’s new license format, this change in law will make hunting less complicated, improve license management by hunters and trappers, and limit the inconveniences and troubles associated with lost or misplaced licenses.

“While we are pleased with the change in law, it is important to remember that the new law doesn’t take effect for 60 days. So, hunters and trappers will need to continue to wear their licenses on an outer garment until Feb. 13.”

I would prefer to wear it and be inspected with binoculars than be approached to check for it.

For once I am with pgh marty...

I don't want to be stopped just to see if I even have a license while I am hunting or even on my way home..

The best they every did (IMHO) was when the license was a differ color every year.. no need to actually stop everyone if you could see the license on the back and it was the right color....

I can just hear the guys around here complaining next year about the local WCO stopping everyone to make them produce the licenses and valid ID ... look for signed licenses, last year licenses still in the pouch (or what ever one is carrying them in now) ask where's the written permission slip to have that tree stand there... etc... etc... and I will agree it will happen more than it does now...

I'll probably still just display mine, no crime in that??? On being checked don't think it would matter much anyway. Anytime a game warden was around he would check turkey/buck/doe/migratory for dove/woodcock & stamp for waterfowl if hunting any ov these situations.

    crappy

Add fur takers lice. to the list...

opps,... & to make sure you are not using someone else s lice.

    opps again, forgot archery

    sorry 'bout that

Finally got smart last yr. & started putting my fishing lice in my wallet on the water I fish most always.  Don't have a printer at home to make multiple copies off the website.

In NY and Ct I dont have to display any license. -Just FYI guys takem and  get some of that clear plastic stuff at the sporting goods shop that you can put them into and it seals watertight. Some of them even have a bobby pin so you can attach them inside a pocket and can be peeled open to remove kill tags.
That in the  wallet or tackle box or in a pocket is a recipe for loss or water logged disaster.
Personally I never carry a wallet in the woods- just the sealed tags pinned inside a pocket for safety.

I don't carry my reg. wallet while fishing my home water. Just a old thin one with a photo I.D. & my lice inside & haven't had a prob. yet. I don't carry one hunting at all, just put the photo I.D. in a GOOD lice. holder, snap it shut & duct tape it across the lip. Never lost a hunting lice in 40 yrs. but the fishin' lice. was another story

Go ahead and display yours if you want.  I've only been checked once (and that was only b/c my dumb bass cousin wasn't wearing an orange hat) and always reluctantly obeyed the regulation.  Once it's officially gone, I'll exercise my right to carry in my wallet.

It's an unnecessary burden and I'm totally glad some common sense has prevailed no matter how long it took.  If you don't think it's a burden try navigating multiple camo outer layers in archery season.  One got wet, better change coats for the the afternoon.  Oh wait I have to put my orange vest on now, switch the license over.  I can't even count how many times this season I switched the license between outer garments.  Effin pathetic law.  Goodbye.

I haven't put mine on an outer garment at all this year, and have been checked multiple times and have not had a problem.  I keep my hunting license and an expired driver's license in a small plastic fishing license holder and keep it in a pocket of my coat or pants.  None of the PGC officers have said anything about it.  I was actually checked more in past years with it properly displayed then this year, and I hunt the same spots.  I really like the fact that I won't be breaking any laws now (once it is finalized).

The worst day hunting or fishing will always be better then the best day at school or work!

I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do. When I'm in the stand, the back tag always rubs against the tree causing noise. I've had them come off a few times and fall to the ground. I've only been checked out when I've hunted on Game Commission land. There you can expect it.

I prefer carrying a lisc in my wallet fishing NY,OH and never had a problem there. Just less crap to deal with . I think it would be great if PA goes that way with fishing also.

I keep my fishing license clipped to my bag. It's considered an outer garment, but I only wear it from the car to the fishing hole. The fish commission has stopped and checked and done nothing to me. It doesn't matter if they did, I wouldn't do nothing different anyhow.

I'll still keep mine on my back, except in a tree stand.I've always taken it off since I started bow hunting(30 plus years). In Ohio same way keep with Pa. lic. on my back.It just seems easier,I've really lost a lic. but have had them come off a few times small game hunting in some thick stuff. What's the advantage? I never carry a wallet, just old drivers license in license holder.

i have been keeping my fishing licenes in my wallet for years now.  too many times i have forgotten to change it from my fly vest, to a jacket, then to a hat, then to my rain suit depending on weather conditions.  have been checked a few times over the years but they never had a problem with me pulling it out of my wallet to show them and just went along their way.  I figure if its in the wallet then i always have it.

Usually dont carry my wallet in the woods, and need somewhere to put the license anyay. Always know where its at when on your back. Though probably wont wear them when its not mandatory. Just stuff it in a fanny pack pocket proabably. Not sure why they did it, but doesnt make any difference whasoever to me one way or the other.
