How do you organize your Fly Tying?

I have been using a large plastic tub for all of the fly tying items. I don't know what I have, until I buy something to find out I already have it. I thought about a tying desk....but I don't have much room to put it in.

How do you organize your fly tying materials?

Thank you,

I mounted a sheet of pegboard to the wall

Also get those large freezer ziplocks
    And group similar material
When you close them, you can force out the air to minamize space

When mine gets like that, my wife "cleans" it up. I'm still looking for some black dubbing since the last time she "cleaned".

Found a 4 ft high plastic storage cabinet with 6 drawers at a garage sale few yrs ago. Everything I need fits in it and I keep it next to the kitchen table where I do all my tying. As mentioned previously, zip locks are great for storing, grouping together materials for tying specific fly patterns.

I use those too, they've been an excellent and inexpensive way to keep order. Big ones and little ones combine to keep everything but my table tidy. The table is covered with flies as always! 8-) Someday I want to build a really nice Cedar desk, but time is at a premium right now.

I'll try to get a picture up later.

Kjh I'm guessing no cats and a very well trained dog with all your over flow on the floor. My lab and coon hound have learned how to open my plastic drawers and eat all my buck tails. They've eaten at least 6 this year

That bottle of Knob Creek looks a little under-utilized, Bing.

I envy all of you. God Lord, you folks have setups that look like mini fly shops. My "tying bench" is a single, large Rubbermaid container and is sitting in the middle of my garage floor right now... I take it with me every time I go to camp...just in case.

I gotta get on the ball.

I love seeing how others have their areas set up. Bings - WOW - you've come a long way my friend. The link KJ mentioned is a great one to get some ideas. If you can - pegboard is a great way to store materials and is what I did till I moved to my son's bedroom and I was told no pegboard on the drywall So now I have shelves and boxes and zip lock storage folders I keep my stuff in. What is shown here is only part of it. Got more material in tupperware in another closet. Amazing what I have accumulated in 40 years of tying. I really should have a tying garage sale. Last night my wife told me I should move a bed down here since that is where I spend all my time. Anyway - here are some pics of where I go to escape and forget.

I use the clear plastic office file folders with the plastic zippers at the height of Walmart in their office equipment section. They cost some dollars and you can get them in legal size for larger capes and such and letter size for the smaller items. Then you mark them on the end as to what is in them using a black or blue marker and put them on the desk side by each just same a file folder method you might use in an office. Works great and cheap.
    Good luck
