11/25/11 new
Fished from 10 till 2 around Altmar. Crowds were low in the AM and picked up when I was leaving. With all the big expectations today following the rain I would have to say today was the fewest fish I have seen played and landed. I only saw 3 fish landed (including mine :0) ) and probably 15 hooked ups in the 4 hours. On previous days I would also see fish jumping here and there, but none today. Most of the fish I saw were pretty colorful and strong fighters. I switched from the 10lb Vanish to a 5 lb Danmar? tippet. Knots seemed to hold better with no break offs. I went 1 for 3 on Pink glo bugs and in watching other folks get none, I did OK . No hits on other colors. This one took me across the pool twice and showed some nice air a few times. Thanks so much to the guy who netted it for me.

nice job clint... regarding the rain/water level: its typical for rain events or sudden changes in weather to put the fish down for a day or 2 or 3... in time you will figure this out; and your lucky azz being 10 minutes away from the river is gonna reap some serious benefits when they do turn back on... severely jealous of you right now check your pm in box after you read this...

It didn't put em down---by most accounts it's been on fire for 2 days.

Don't know either way if they were down or not, just going by what I saw in the few places I fished and it seemed the # of fish taken and hits were down. DB check your PM and thanks for the tip. Caught in a trib today. Buddy and myself went 1 for 3 each in 4 hours. Not many folks at all around here.

Congrats, Clint. I had some good action at first light, until about 8:30. Then a chill wind and scudding clouds hit. We were sick, so we split at 10 anyway. Thanks for accuracy in reporting, and not spouting off the 25 hook-up crap. Steelies are worth a trip to play with a few , not reel them in like stunted sunnies. Alot of the crowd this weekend will hang it up for the year. Charlie

That's the first thing I thought too. I have a tough time telling the difference, but if I had to guess I would say rainbow too. Several nice steel were taken too. I had a nice hit in a raging torrent of white water about 8 foot across. Sad part is that I tried there after seeing some snaggers hook up and move on. Here is a closer, but fuzzy pic of the fish.

Hey- where is Slam hope all is well -havent heard from him in a while now. Here in the Deer State - Ct -there is one less flathead eater. Said early on was gonna go for the tender this time around. Might hold off till muzzel blaster to try for another- 2 a year is plenty. We get 3 tags in each gun season in my area as well as 4 for bow and then more on State lands. How many can ya eat-???? Down in the Southern coastal areas each time ya take Doe they give another tag- Guess it cause of all the unhuntable pvt no hunting areas that have led to a high DPSM..

RT good Bambi report. I have given up the hunting this year on my quest for steel. Joke or not, lets get back to fish. I am guessing that was a male rainbow and it did fight well for it's size. In my book any fish caught that gives a few minute fight is better than none and any time on the water is better than sitting in front of the TV or being at work

Clint - 2nd pic looks like spawner rainbow to me - very nice colors, looks nothing like the fish in the first pic. Pa - did not hunt today - had to do the other 4 letter word. In my travels I counted lots& lots of vehicles in SGL parking lots.. I'm hunting manana, be in the stand at 5am, maybe the comotion will chase some bucks onto my private patch of woods. Retired - that's amazing how many tags you are allowed. I guess not far from Pa - basically you can buy as many as you wanthere, I got 2 does tags + reg license, but I ain't banking on a buck unless it is a really dumb one.

In the last few hours the level did go up. I guess they are anticipating the rain that is coming and starting to let some out of the reservoir.

Hey rt, I think in the past week tug hill has gotten over 2 inches of rain. I would suppose the reservoir is at capacity; and yes they did bump it up to 500. The ten day forecast is showing some more seasonable weather coming up.... 'Tis the season.....

Not that I want floods or 12' of snow in one storm, but I sure hope the river gets some higher flows this winter. Better for the fish, and the fishing. Less ice, more depth for winter lies. Most of my favorite runs fish best at 500+. Sure was a mild Nov. I used a 1/3 less wood than I usually burn. Charlie
