New Report

Arrived in Altmar at 10 AM Sunday to see MOBS of anglers, heavier crowds than Salmon season a couple weeks ago.Fished the LFZ in the afternoon and by that time it was slow.Did hook into a few late,Salmon and one huge Steel, was using light tippet and lost all.
Monday morning I landed one nice Steely and a nicely colored Coho, had a few others on but lost them.Took a break in the afternoon to see what was happening down in Pooolaski. No one fishing the ballpark, fast water above short bridge,or staircase.....no one!I did n't try it and went back to the LFZ and was skunked.
Today I thought I would give the UFZ a try, crossed below the Paradise and worked some promising water all the way up to the wire and back down, had one nice Coho on and one other fish and that was it.Saw two Browns landed up at the wire and one Steel in the fast water below the Paradise. Most people that were there when I arrived were gone by the time I came down and left for the LFZ.Very, very slow up there!
Spent the afternoon in the LFZ and went 4 for 7 on Steel.Others were hooking up and the report was good action there in the morning.
Will be on the water tomorrow and Thurs morning, will give a report later.

You must like those crowds if you keep going back to the zone.

    Good luck tomorrow.

Should be quite a bit of snow next few days plus southern zone deer season opens saturday should be a good weekend. Wish the water would go up to about 750, that would spread the people out. Pa I too am surprised you spend so much time in the zones, I have not fished them in years, elbows to azzholes with a bunch of grown men swinging oversized rods around is not my idea of fun, seems the rods get longer and the river is getting smaller. Good luck to you, got one more day of work than put my deer stand up and try and shoot my first deer in 22 years of tring.

Have been very lucky in this life with decent  bucks. That said, they eat like old shoe leather.
Took a very decent 8 last rifle season and passed waiting out a bigger one in Muzzel loading season..
This year told the wife will shoot a yearling - tender and tasty- safe liver too.

Retired hunting for me is just about being there, opening day cold fresh air just before daylight standing in the treestand. Last year thought it was gonna be the year and the buck went right instead of left towards me. Only have seen 3 or 4 I would have shot. I hunt state land so that kind of makes it more difficult.

Know what you mean- I have often just sat there land watched as they work around in the woods. Could have shot many times- preferred to just watch.

Enough of this deer hunting banter this is a fishing thread, cease it now!
Spent the day on the LFZ with lots of company and had some success in the morning but in the afternoon I could n't get a hit,it's not that they stopped hitting they just avoided me.Those that I played with were large and small, dark and bright, the little ones were chrome and frisky.Going to fish a couple hours tomorrow then head for home.

ok my take.....sorry have to vent,,,,,shot my deer with the bow so when fishing, nov 10-13

i was blown away by the crowds.....fished lower river below staircase to coho hole. 10/10 until about 11 am, no strikes. about 15 ppl around .

went up river n was nuts with ppl so when back to staircase fished all the way up past the long bridge till dusk

fri am headed to downstream of longbridge. were 3 other ppl in pool before 6. by 630 ....11 ppl..including 5 OTB ( off the boat ) guys ripping. so i headed down only to find just as many ppl .....i went upriver to see how back it was...it was now about 11. i counted 126 cars( on my life) in ellis. wire, schoolhouse, north and south altmar and lfz parking lots.....i was way more crowed than late sept salmon season.....looked almost as bad as columbus day weekend,,

so i went to some tribs to find few anglers but no steel ....

sat am fished again. long bridge ,,,,did have 2 hookups on beads. lost both in under 10 seconds....crowds were not bad. could see mayb 12 ppl up and 10 down stream, went up river at noon. just as crowded as friday so headed back down river till dusk....sunday was a little lighter ppl wise. had 3 hookups . one landed, 22 inch male. broke other 2 off. 5 lbs tippet. went upriver. tressel south. at 11. walked up about 450 yards. lots of ppl aroung. 99 percent were lifting or sight fishing. i saw 7 kings on stringers. i was shaking my head. i was hoping to make a trip a month a new thing. i wont b back now till late feb. i still am in shock at the numbers of ppl....i taldk to a guy i knew that tried to get a place to stay , couldnt find a room . had to stay in oswego.....

Crap my wife is going to Ithica this Sat and I was thinking of going fishing, but you may have just talked me out of it.
I NEVER go on the weekend, but then I hadn't gone targeting kings since the 80s until this fall either.

Like that area above Tressel and fish it a lot- your spot on with the sight fishing snaggers up there last week. Saw them hunting an 'fishing' in the nearby side channels last week=when the see ya coming by they stop and wait a bit then start again ,

Fished a couple hours Thursday before heading home, landed one had another on and one frisky Salmon that broke me off.Spent more time talking to others than casting, after three and 1/2 days my tank was getting empty, the golden years aint what they claim!Overall I had a good trip, played with some fish, had nice weather, enjoyed most of my fellow anglers company. The only drawback was the number of people there, even during the week, guess if I go again in this time period I'll have to venture out of the zones, rippers or not!

Based on the size of saw of the splashes I saw when the weight hit the water, you got soe rippers in the zones as well.

They're stealth rippers but most are fishing for them, below the bridge there are many, many slob rippers.

Two reasons dime.....very low water in Erie reducing it to puddles connected by riffles, and my Erie fishing partner was n't available so I picked the closer of the two for this trip. However, this week Erie got a shot of rain and if they get more water my next trip will be west.

Lucky---the fish like those splashes---brings them back to a simpler time when they were minnows in the holding tank(think dinner bell).

I've heard that logic for recently stocked trout; throw in a hand full of gravel to get them looking up, then a hare's ear or anything else that looks like a Purina Trout Chow pellet, but I thought they might forget that after a few years of hunting out in the big water! So the hard pull at the end of every drift is just to get the bell sounding underwater, Huh?! LOL!

Just semantics but minnows are minnows, baby trout are fry and then parr and then smolts as they silver up and head for the lake. Carp are minnows even when they hit 40 lbs!
