NSSF's Doug Painter demonstrates a quick and easy way to sight in your rifle in two shots.
*Some shooters may prefer to use a three-shot group instead of just one shot.

But, if you are confident in your ability to shoot consistently and in the accuracy of your rifle - two shots is all it takes.

For the three-shot group method move the retical to the center of your group

Information is somewhat good but I do it differently. I use purple loc-tite as it is designed for small dia fasteners and is removable. Second I use two machined centers to both set ring alignment and also height. Even when using this much more accurate method the rings some times must be lapped or even shimmed for perfect alignment so the tube has even pressure on it. And last, make sure the space between the bottom and top ring clamp is even on both sides. Use the same amount of torque until tight. Never found that I needed to apply anything on inside of rings to prevent slippage of scope.

In theory this is true in reality most benches are not solid enough to perform this task. They simply move to much or the gun will move. A concrete bench anchored in the ground and a gun shot from a vise is best. When in doubt always shoot a 3 or 5 shot group. You owe it to the game you are hunting.
