After Nov 1
So since peoples can use treble hooks on lures (vomit) then would it be legal to have a fly with 2 hooks articulated or does one hook need to be snapped off in the vice at the bend? If so which hook would you break off?

Just use an egg pattern and not worry about it---Dork
Steel on a pin---so easy a caveman can do it.

Does a fly become a lure when there is more than one hook and an articulating body, not to me of course but to the ticket writers. If I had to break one off it would be the back one and Ill keep the one tied to my line.

Big Truttas like a Big swimmer sometimes. Egg flies would be too easy, like almost as easy as fishing Erie. I will have plenty though. Hehehe.

I;d worry if I was fishing the zones but the rest of the river is general regs. Doesn't specify fly. lure or bait.

come on guys you should ALL know this.. If it sinks (such as any fly will) 1 hook only anywhere on the river.. Gen regs kick in April 15th where you can use that fly below the zones.. But Till then , one hook Salmo..

I just forgot and thought it would be good discussion maybe. Here in pa we can use 2 hooks, a brace of wet flies, whatever. I think the one fly or no 2 hook articulated swimmers is pretty dumb. In high or cold water here I use a bead head and a soft hackle trailer, sometimes 2 soft hackles diff colors. And yes- most fish are caught on the one color, that color depending on pupa in the water I would guess since I have booked what colors work at what time of year.

agreed salmo it is good discussion and don't know why it's not allowed.. I really don't think those tube flies should be either as the hooks are not attached to the fly and the tippet is run through the tube to the hook thus creating a sliding hook.. I wrote to Fran Verdoliva (the sweeper) about their legality in the zones who in turn asked DEC and said they were good to go.. So what gives there.. Really though if it's not used as a "tool" then I could care less.. I'd still stick with the articulated flies (like you mentioned) as the tailing hook line is attached to the main shank not the main line.. What you do there is tie in a second hook using 30# mono to the first hook then cut the first hook point off at the bend.. Even heard of folks using cotter pins as the main shank with hook tied onto them.. Makes sense really..

Longer shanks such as standard streamer hooks (5x long)give more leverage for the fish to twist the hook out.

salmo; havent tried it myself yet; but ive seen guys tie tube flies with a smaller fly trailing rather than just the bare hook... this may allow you to accomplish the presentation your looking for while using one hook....
