Gonna get better--

Just got in from 3 days on the River. Mon Tues and today- Today was bright and sunny and the others were a bit overcast Temps in the high 40s to low 60s.
CROWDED conditions are top to bottom-haven't seen it like this in years - kinda like way back when in the trebble hook snaggin days. Stood below 81 and above Tresel and counted over 80- guys in each place.( not the Tressel pool - above ) Think lotta guys bought into last weeks mega run stories and  came up for their week-still to come folks -still to come-
Lots of river talk bout reading reports of that 'big run' and coming up for 'the trip'.
Looked at each King I saw on a stringer and caught and about 90% have their "adipos" (sp) fin.- natural spawners-- Would seem the stocked fish have not run as yet in any big numbers and the steel havent shown in any numbers  yet either. Only saw one small brown on a stringer and only two Steel- lots of Kings.
Think that most got into fish but there was by no means any kinda run going on. If you stood in one place you would see bout an average of 6 or 8 fish an hour zip by- mostly singles-some hours nothing at all. In some of the seams and regular holding waters there were fish - but they were surrounded.
Exactly the same condition top to bottom- Did NOT hit the Zones- they looked packed up too.

Bottom line--These Kings are dark and have been there for a while and we need new stock. Not very many dead ones yet so they are still gonna be there for a bit and no where near the beds one would think should be there - the main 'thing' is ahead of us.
The major run seems late this year although its not uncommon for early Oct. not to have experienced it yet.  Just the pushes as we have seen.  Those days of big greens and spawners all over with Steel and Hos mixed in have yet to happen- Give it a week or two and we will in for a great time.
Water is still low and was murky Mon and Tues and clear today. Some places I like to fish only had a coupla inches.
RAIN please - and when it does I think its gonna be nuts. Lotta guys have made their annual trips and the numbers will probably be decreasing in a week or so.
Good luck and good fishin- its still early-as usual.

Not sayin it hasnt been good to decent at all- If a guy wants to get a fish in these conditions he can.
Just havent seen the place fill up as yet with lotsa multiple kindsa fishes- ya know how it gets when they are IN.
Did a lotta pure fly fishin hoping for some Steel with no luck. Nor were any of the other  guys I spoke to  targeting  Steel.   Did OK on the Kings. Frankly when they are this spooky and  buzzin  past an bein VERY line shy with this much pressure I do more walking and lookin and such than actual fishin.
Like a fish or two but if its a chuckin day I get just as much fun outa watchin them buzz by.
All the fish I did land had multiple hooks in them which I pulled before the release- thats part of my point. Now and then I gotta get a fish on- but enough of that is enough of that.

I don't know if this has been mentioned here.It seems the Oswego is running at flood stage and there is no fishing there, could explain the huge crowd on the SR.

Think that a fresh push of fish will increase the number of biters out there as well as bring in new species- few and far between right now-
Tuna had a similar experience as myself as depicted in his post today. Did the same thing too- just started watching the show. Made me feel better bout my experience  cause on that 90/10 thing I know where he is and where I am.
As to the fish - dont know for sure if its that there arent enough fishes right now or if its just way too many guys for the fishes there are.

Hey trevor your last sentence is a great point in which I have pondered myself recently. Let's assume that that last big push of kings a week ago was maybe 5000 fish within 3 days. I saw pictures and reports of the lower staircase area in which hundreds of people were in sight and everyone was hooking fish. Now take into consideration the dsr the black hole the ballpark the townlower pool the clam shed... and so on and so forth... thousands of people... I'm sure many of those people in the past week or 2 have been keeping limits of fish.... so I would say that it safe to assume that a lot of fish aren't even getting further than the mid river without getting caught. Yes there are a lot of fish in the upper river, but maybe this would explain why they're not as many as 1 would think it would be at this time...

Let's face the facts it is peak salmon season and in my opinion peak of salmon season sucks

    Agree- Dime-
LOTS of fish being taken out on stringers wherever I went. It aint hard to pick them off in this low water and the guys are chasing and slashing the heck outa them. SPOOKY and line shy - thats why the biters are so few. 1 in 100 heck 1 in 500 -if that. Need lots of fish or a lot more water under these conditions to get a hitting one.
Remember though - most of these Kings are 'with the fin'. Naturals -. Hatchery  fishes in any numbers are just not there. Saw tonsa stringers and few fish without 'the fin' and very few Steel or Browns. (total of 3).
Think the point of my report was that IT is yet to come- by IT I mean that time when Kings, Hos and Steel are all there and the beds have fishes and its going strong- that aint happenin yet.
It probably should be happening bout now but its late- The guys who have waited for mid to late October may just hit a great time.
Perhaps fewer fishermen too cause lotsa guys have already made their annual trip.
       Tunas report looked kinda similar.
