Hit the UFZ this morning for a couple hours.Does n't seem to be a lot of Salmon in the area we fished, did n't have any action with the Salmon. However,I did land two nice Steelhead, both were about 32" in length and weighed maybe 12#,measered them by hand, hand is 8" and they were 4 hands long.Joe was blanked this AM.
Thought we would try the LFZ,my God I never saw so many people there, ever! It was shoulder to shoulder from one end to other, does n't anybody work?Even drove down stream to look around and every area was packed with people:(
Taking a break now, will hit it again for the evening hatch:)

Other than that there was no lodging the lfz wasn't bad Saturday afternoon and Sunday till 4. There were quite a few people but everyone worked with each other which was great. I brought my 11 year son and he had a blast new to the fly fishing just started was his first time other than the yard he did great only a few tangles he had quite a few fish on. Said it was the best time of his life I think he's got the fever now.

As for the amount of people on the river PA I was told that Osewgo is at flood stage and the dam is open and that they plan on keeping it that way all the way through salmon season, so I would assume that people are coming there since Osewgo is unfishable. We had to go stay down there since everywhere had no vacancy. Good luck I had alot of luck with root beer colored flies

Well about 2 PM the LFZ thinned out enough that we could find a parking spot.Hit the fast water again and first fish on was a Steelhead about 6# and I managed to beach him. Then it was King time, had several on but lost all after some great battles. The Steely hit a black wooly bugger,Kings hit wooly buggers in black and olive, one on a rootbeer, and a few on a small pink glo bug.
Strange thing happened this evening, fish seemed to be turning on to our pink bugs and it started to rain. When the rain started to fall hard the fish turned off.No one near us hooked up after that,it was getting late so we folded up and called it a day.Tomorrow we try some different water.

Hit the UFZ this morning and found a spot with no people and lots of fish.Trouble is the fish that came through our run all morning were moving up and not stopping for anything,we managed a few hookups but overall it was slow.I did have a huge female king on for quite awhile but it dropped off before we could get a net under it.
After our noon break we went to the LFZ and fished some fast water, again loads of fish moving up.I landed one nice Steelhead and lost several Salmon, that's the way it's going this trip.
Tune in tomorrow for a new report.

Got there about 1 1/2 hrs before legal time thinking I would tie up a new leader and slowly get ready.
Oops a group of 6 already on the river where I wanted to be.
    Time for fallback plan B.
Get suited up in a hurry and get my second choice.
    Then it starts.
All I could think of was the final scene from "Field of dreams" but instead of car headlights it was a steady stream of fishermen's headlamps.

    Done fishing at 10am.
Waited on the bridge watching tons of spooked fish avoiding everything that wasn't moving faster than they could avoid.

Hey-- had 2 Kings today in a pocket below the 81 -  Saw them go in and gave them bout 10 min to calm a bit and put on a popsicel .
Soon as I started throwin rope 2 guys came right over and one stood right where my fly was landing and peered into the pocket- 'two fish" he says and starts lifting. Now his buddy below the pool on my side starts throwin too.
This run or pocket  is bout 10 feet across and bout 6 feet long. Dont know how the heck it happened but I caught both of their lines.  I was flyin and they were lifting.
The fished bugged. Think those guys were too. Know dam**d  well I was.

Hit the UFZ today and went down to 6# tippet and a small pink glo bug and had all kinds of action on kings. While taking a break I noticed a nice little stretch of water with no one fishing it.I started working that stretch and the action got fast and furious with lots of fish on and break offs.Since this was fast riffly water I went up to 8# and finally managed to land a couple.Today was one of those days that the action was so good we fished until 5 PM then quit and drug our weary bodies back to the car.
With this low clear water it seems light tippets and small flies are the ticket to "FISH ON".

How was the crowd up there PAL- were so many cars in the LFZ lot and across the street and on the roadsides. I just kept driving. First trip in a while while didnt hit the zones.  Walked far  from the lots but found conditions crowded pretty much all over.

    Nice to have that option.
I pulled in about 4:40 thinking I had all the time in the world only to find headlamps on the river.

I was bored by 8 but stuck it out hoping a troot would come along until just after 10 so that it would be lunch time at Mc Ds.
Pulled gobs of line and "flies" off the bottom.

It was small and drab and moving fast flies that were hooking fish consistantly for people.

I was fishing various comets and eggs and bunnies and estaz spankers picking up occassional fish mostly on comets.
Tough in the lfz now and not for lack of fish.

    Back to an old post.
Db I think the ratio that can will stike at any one time is more like 1 in 100 or 200.

Slept late today as we were very tired.Going out shortly.
Yesterday I would say 90% of the fish I played with were taking it with violent head shakes when hooked, but I was fishing over undisturbed fish with few people around.

Waderboy; I would have to agree with you NOW....

I believe ratios that we spoke about in an earlier thread was more or less referring to unmolested fish in the dslr in the early season. Even if you hit undisturbed fish in the upper river at this time, they have still seen it all and they are mentally programmed to be afraid of any line or angler insight..
I said before I am usually done with my salmon season as most peoples are just starting...

Regardless, best wishes and best of luck to all anglers up there or planning on going up in the near future.
. Bottom line should be just go out there and have fun... tight lines

Well it was another day for Kings and one Steelhead on and lost.Fished the fast riffly water most of the day with 8# tippet and small pink glo bugs, managed to land three or four all hooked in the jaw except one on the side of head.Lost a bunch there during the day.The last hour I moved to deeper water, flat and good flow, went down to 6# and managed to get three players on,all hooked in the mouth but after three long battles lost each one. After that I was bone tired and did n't want another fish on so quit about 5.
Going to fish half a day tomorrow and drive home.

Got out on the UFZ around 8 AM Friday and fished to 11:30,drifted small pink glo bugs through fast deeper water and had about 6 players on but lost all, very few people around and it was a pleasant time on the SR.Went back to our room and packed up and was on the road home by 12:30.Don't know if I'll get up for Salmon but considering a trip for trout later.
