Seismic crews are have been working in my area.  I just found out that they have been all through most of the property on a daily basis for a week or so now.  I guess that would explain the lack of recent sightings for me.  I don't know all of the details of the testing yet, but this bums me out to no end.  If work is going to continue for the duration of the season, I may be hanging the bow up for the year for the most part.  Really disappointed right now

They just finished on one of the farms I hunt.  Wires,  people, weedwackers and helicopters all through the woods.  Took about three weeks from start to finish.  I got to give them credit. They did clean up every piece of ribbon before they moved on.  Sounds like very bad timing for you.

If they put in a drilling pad, kiss the whole area goodbye. Here's why. Pad is 5 acres. But it effects about 30 or forty. Next comes security check points. Next comes access denied. I speak from experience and am not the only one that has been affected by the "gas boom". I hope you do not experience this.

It makes it worse because this is a lease and the landowner continually "forgets" to let us know when all of this chit is going on.  This is our third season of exclusive(control) access and second year of being in a lease.  It is starting to become more aggravation than it is worth.  As hard as it will be, it might be time to just cut my ties and move on.

I am still waiting for an explanation from the LO as to what the heck is going on.

With that type of LO sound like it is best to move on. Time and money well spent else where.

Sounds like that owner wants his money and wants his money- If he was up front he'd tell ya whats up - his place after all but  if ya knew you probably wouldnt be so upset bout it- somebody oughta tell him bout the responsibility that comes with takin a mans cash.

You got it RG, giving us a little bit of a heads up would have been the decent thing to do.  He obviously knew about this for some period of time.  It is a shame we have to find these things out using a game camera as surveillance.

I won't get into details, but the LO is a very close relative of one of my lifelong friends (who is also part of the lease).  We have known him for many years.

Knew some guys who leased a Farm here in central CT- Nice place for Deer Ducks and Turkey- --all was fine till the landowners adult kids who didnt hunt started letting their friends go there too- then some friends started 'taking out the grandkids' to hunt Deer and Turkey-
Kinda like paying for a new car and then finding ya gave cash for clunkers. The only guys I know who have decent leases have a clearcut written contract so both sides 'get it'. If your paying - its business.

RE: So, how did it go ? 2011/10/25 13:11:17 (permalink)
Well I finally got some clarification on the situation.

It appears that they have been in and out for the last week marking hazards that may impede their testing.  The preliminary hazard identification is complete and the subcontractor will be sending in the surveyors to mark the half dozen or so testing lines across the property within the next week.  The surveyors are only expected to need 1-2 days to mark the lines.

This is part of a much larger project and they were not clear when they would get back to the property to do the actual testing, but they did state that the testing will begin for the project on Dec 1.  Depending on how quickly the project moves, they may not be back to our property to do the testing until the end of January, but it is still possible to have them show up Dec 1.  The actual testing can be very intrusive and may even include a chopper.

So, it appears that we are ok for the remainder of the archery season, but have no guarantees for the gun season.

I am still not happy about it, but things could certainly have been alot worse.  Sorry to make everyone listen to me whine

My best spot is a 67 acre place close to home with a ton of non hunting pvt property around it.I do some chores and stuff to get the permit-Last year they came through it and built a gravel road to a power line-right in the season  ---nuff said.

Had my one chance at a 150+ last night, he walked by on cue at 45 yds, out of my range for the setup and conditions. Pretty sure I won't get a chance to hunt that one again due to farm activity this week, that will change his pattern. Oh well, cool to try em on.

I walked into a spot I hadn't even been to last night. Only area I can find that has acorns. Deer must be coming from miles around because there are alot of deer. I got to a spot that looked good but I didn't think it was far enough back. Afterall, it's time to focus on bucks so I need to go back more (right). Next 20 yards I jumped 4 doe. They went right and didn't snortso I'm still good. Figured I'd go to the steep and ended up jumping 3 wide arses. My rule for hunting a new area is to not go in far at first and work your way back each hunt. I didn't follow that rule and messed it up. If I'd got up the first tree I thought about, they all would have came right to me and the wind was perfect. There are a couple tall tined dark horned 8s in the area. That was probably my chance at them. Son of a...

Weather looks rainless next week. (for now)

My buddy killed a 9pt off our lease Monday evening.  I guess all of the 2-legged intrusions are bothering us more than the deer.

Calling for 30* and dead calm wind tomorrow morning.  Should make for a decent day

I got tomorrow off.  Looking to be good.  Now that my sons 104.8 temp. has finally broke, looks like I'll get to go out in the woods rather than being home with him.

Get out after them fellas...

Hope your kid is feeling better duud.  We need to get er done soon, wally fishing has been hot for the past 2 weeks...

I will be out tomorrow in hopes of seeing (1) one deer.  The way things have been going I need to set my standards low so if something changes I have reason to get excited.  I need to hang a stand up sometime tomorrow, but I plan to be in stand all day other than that.  And all day Saturday....

Finally saw my first shooter on Friday Am but only caught a glimpse as he moved off through the pines grunting at 80 yds. at 7:45am.  Fog made it hard to see things most of the AM.  Then, had a 4 pt. come within 5 yds of my stand at 7:55am.  Saw another buck grunting before all that action at 7:30 am (hard to see with the darkness and fog) but could make out a flash of antlers but don't think he was a shooter.  Then, some baldies hung out in a nearby field from 8:30am until 9:30am until another dink buck came along and shooed them away.  Kicked one more out on the way out of the woods at 10:45am.  Didn't hunt the evening yesterday or the snow this AM.  Fever came back off and on yesterday afternoon and I was up with him all night (coughing, sore throat, alternating motrin and tylenol, just plain miserable).  Wife is starting to get it too and has been up with him the last few nights (he's been sick since Wed.) so I gave her a break so she could catch up on sleep.  Usually get to hunt snow in archery maybe once every 10 yrs down here and I missed it (hopefully it sticks around this evening).   I'll be heading out for sure.

1/2 day vacations for me every day next week as long as the kids get better.

Good luck fellas.

Got out for the first time this year tonight had a doe in my sights at 15 yards just wouldnt take 1 more step to a clearing. My dad was squirrel hunting a few hundred yards away from me and had a 10 point walk right up to 25 yards away from him. His unlucky day to not take the bow.

Silver..

Sure looks (from the photo) like you do not have a lot of "shooting lanes" at that location ??????

Good luck though ...

Not many doc.  The area was hammered by an ice storm about 8 years ago.  It is nearly impenetrable and for that reason, receives no pressure.  Maybe a guy or two in rifle.  It is frustrating even trying to get to it and that's after I cut a trail.   I did not do much lane clearing because I jumped a nice buck from its bed.  Set it up and got out of there.  Heavy snow was a good time to sneak in and out.

Dad asked how the snow was Saturday morning so I took a pic out the door of the blind to send him.  No shooting back there.

That's the type area that a big one would live in that's for sure... but many hunters would not be able to see a deer there or bother to hunt there and would then list it as an area with no deer ...

That place has deer written all over it. Any feed? Gota love snow for a background. Don't change a thing I see plenty of holes to shoot through.

20 turkey, doe, tounge hanging out, 5 min later non legal 3x2, 5 min later nice 8 shows with his nose to the ground running back and forth like a beagle. Drew, couldn't get him to stop even after I yelled at him, he just kept his nose to the ground looking for her.

Hunted yesterday AM and seen 12 deer, only one was a dink buck chasing a doe around the hill. Rest were baldies and youngins.

Spent the night last night in the ER. Fever came back something strong last night. Son has pneumonia. On antibiotics now so hopefully he is on the mend, finally.
