Well another week past and things have been ssssssllllllllooooowwwwww for me.  Full moon, hot weather, and limited visibility in the woods are my excuses for the lack of action in my area.

What about everyone else?  How has the action been for you as of late?

Good night. Minor feeding time was 7:40 pm here. Deer started moving around me at about 5:45 and continued till dark. Several small bucks lots of does out under the kids stand. Saturday will be a blast with them. Good Luck All.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

I haven't hunted since Saturday.  I have some people to watch the baby but I am patiently waiting and saving those days.   Probably hunt this Saturday and not really start hammering till about Oct 26.   I had my chances with a few big doe the first week; one I screwed up and the other I drew on her 3 times and she managed to take off soon as the pin got on her chest the 3rd time.  I'm set for one area but as usual scrambling to get a handle on things in areas I think should produce but have yet to see what I want.  They will start to show soon.  Rubs numbers seem really really down so far.  I'll take the wind and rain on Saturday to put down some boot leather.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

Rubs are almost non existent in all the areas I have scouted, but there are decent buck numbers there. Weird year for sign.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

Three doe, 2 fawns, three small bucks close enough to shoot. five misquito bites, washed the sweat out of cloths twice, few rubs. Typical early hunting. Deer hunting normally doesn't get good for me until the steelhead start running in big numbers.

Heck of a shot with a bow, Ken.

How did you get an arrow to fly accurately enough to hit a deer at over 1,000 yards -- you know, the Doc required distance to be from a food plot (unless its him on SGL's)?

I did congrats him.

But I also find it necessary to point out stupidity where I see it and you seem to provide plenty of prime examples.

By the way, where is your criticism of Ken hunting over a food plot?  On private ground not less?  Hum?

Might get out Sat. AM at this point, if I am lucky. More rain moving in today.

If you go back and read the thread I never said a thing about food plots until you made light of me hunting near my home where I supplementally feed deer in the winter then posted about your hunting near a beet plot..

I have never had a single thing against hunting over food plots.. hunt where you or anyone wants to that is legal is my story.. IN fact many here will tell you I'd vote YES for baiting tomorrow, so why would I be against hunting food plots.???

I refer to guys hunting food plots when those same folks complain about me hunting 500 yards from my house... that's all it is... I don't see any difference...

feeding spots, food plots and crop fields all do the same thing.. they draw deer... as do apple trees and acorns... and if a person wants to hunt there.. fine.. but if they do they should not make negative statements about someone else that does which your statement did and that's what started the debate and why I returned the favor and called you on hunting near a beet plot...

as for calling me stupid... whatever floats your boat ... you know you'll get away with it on this site

Be careful out there Saturday, they are calling for gusts up to 40mph in our area

I am off tomorrow and will continue my quest to kill my first one on my b-day, rain or shine.  I will probably skip hunting in the hurricane winds on Saturday and drink beer all day instead

What was that saying ? I think it goes something like stupid is what studid does or something like that. Well anyway you state your all for baiting and you would vote yes tomorrow. Why is that when only a few post ago you said that killing deer for you is easy or do you already hunt over bait ? Maybe you could shoot a fawn sucking on mama while eating at your corn pile. Would that make you feel like the great white hunter you claim
to be ? Yeah "don't hate me because I'm sucessful" !!

Probably a good idea. I've killed bucks in the wind but educated many more than I killed. I don't often see many deer when the wind is high like predicted. If it were late in the season then it might be differnt but it's not, so popping a few tops doesn't sound bad at all.

Yeah, I might have to bag it tomorrow too. I was only going to get to hunt the AM anyways with a b-day party and halloween party to attend later in the day. I'll still probably get up to check on the weather and make the call then but it isn't looking too good.

Saw 4 bucks this morning.  3 little guys and a decent 8.  I also saw 2 small bucks fighting right up the road when I was driving in this morning.

Wind was howling pretty good after lunch and it is supposed to get worse for tomorrow.  Even though s-10 will no longer consider me a real hunter, I am going to drink beer and watch football tomorrow.  It is still early and things are just starting to pick up.

You would have been a fool to be in a stand on Saturday around here.  Sustained winds @ 25-35mph and gusts into the mid 40s.  Lots of trees and large limbs down all over the place.  I sure as heck wasn't going to spend the day swinging back and forth dodging limbs.  I made the right choice

Got my biggest oldest toughest eating buck ever in a windstorm- admittedly by accident -but windstorm non the less. Wind was blowin so hard I was leaving the woods and came on him- never knew I was there. Pure luck.

I never had real good luck in the air during high wind but have killed quite a few on the ground during wind and rain or snow. Shot most in their beds. Wind is blowing as hard here today as it was Sat. Hope I don't get rocked to sleep.

Hey 10-- When that rut starts they dont give a hoot bout wind rain or sleet- they make their rounds. Ya gotta be there no matter what.
This time of year with a less than desirable mast crop ( round here at least) its kinda hard to pattern them during this transition period though and the wind certainly wont be helpful.
Finding more than average numbers down low right now cause of the light mast on the ridges.

Wind was rockin the double split pine tree when I first climbed in but laid right down about six. Had a doe and two fawns under me and a small buck further out. He seemed to be crusing, the doe sure wanted nothing to do with him and bolted when she saw him. No hard mast where I am at but lots of soft.

Had the crossbow with me but decide to not shoot anything since tomorrow is a work day ... I sat in my ground blind after work and had 7 antlerless deer walk by from 5:45pm to 6:15pm headed to the neighbor's apples trees still loaded with apples... 4 adult females walking by and 20 minutes later the group of three (the doe with the "goofy" ear and her twin fawns) looking good for the senior hunt later this week !!!!

Humm ?? But you claim you are a meat hunter big or small and a processor cuts your deer up for you. You puzzle the **** out of me at times.

Bigger bucks don't get big from being dumb. This week and weekend should educate them as gun hunters put more pressure on their home ground. Be patient, they could show up during light in about 2 weeks. good luck !

There were six deer in the field across the street this morning.  If that is any indication of movement, yinzers should be seeing some deer today.

Best of luck.

Dad and brother both had decent bucks chasing does around them last night. Not serious chasing, but getting interested. I had a big spike walk right under me, the only deer I saw. It was a bit windy for the spot I was able to hunt, but it is what it is.

Better too far back, than too far forward.
