Rubs
Is it me or is anybody else not seeing any rubs at all. I am getting pictures of 4 different bucks. They are all out of velvet and i have seen 0 rubs on my property. I sometimes see these bucks during the day so i know this is where they live but i have seen no rubs at all. What do you guys think about this?

It depends on the areas. I didn't see any in a particular area in 2F the last few days but did see a couple small scrapes. They will show up in a couple of weeks you can bet on that.

My son found a couple of beer can size rubs waist high and about 20 smaller sapplings rubbed today while picking some sheephead shrooms. Also found 2 scapes nearby.Hard to believe this early but I think and older deer makes scapes early in the year because they know whats ahead. Last year I arrowed my buck Oct 19 th and there where scapes in that area on the Oct 2. No rubs where in the area of the scapes.Rubs are very nice to see but I'd rather hunt over a 4 foot scrape any day.

I have been seeing quite a few rubs (and scrapes) as of late. I will hunt a good rubline early in the season as it can sometimes give up a bucks pattern. We have pics of some nice bucks using a rubline during daylight hours from last week. But overall I would agree with Tuna and prefer a large fresh scrape over any rub.

I found a rub line with a scrape at the end today but is the only rubs I've seen since the end of August. I do have a bump line on my forehead from all the black fly bites if that counts. Can't wait for the first HARD frost.

Probably not, the plan is to work with the grandson this Sat to try and get him a shot. I've got lots of time. It's the only benefit of being retirement age.

Kind of down on rubs this year for whatever reason. I haven't visited the young striped maple tree cuts however. They usually hammer them.
My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

Actually, I lied. I did go thru on a striped maple cut on Tuesday. No rubs. Either no bucks (Gary Alt's fault) or a late rut (Alt's fault too).
My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

My bad--It could get close to the freezing mark here but probably not cold enough to kill them. Just make them hungry when the sun comes out. Won't be long though.

Haven't seen many rubs either but I usually don't do much scouting anyway. I try to stay as low impact as possible, esp. on the areas I know really well. The deer are almost always there, it just varies each year what neighbors try to mess things up by moving in on my sets or what crops are planted in the nearby fields varying the deer movements. I "seem" to do better when the nearby fields are planted in corn and it gets cut early rather than beans.
