You could run it through some enhance and replace software, the kind law enforcement uses. Other than that, it looks fair hooked, with a fly it would actually hit. It also looks like a light rod for that size fish (6 wt. XP?) Though blurry, it's a nice pic. I probably could insert some nasty comments in here, but, I ain't so inclined. Kum-buy-f'in-ya. I can spell- it's phonetic. Charlie

The 6 may seem light but it comes down to how you use them, plus the 8 had a bad line. Here's the King I landed, much smaller fly, point was stuck in about the same spot. I guess this was lined too? See, that's why the fly is still in there, not ashamed, in fact proud I fish for them!

ORIGINAL: metalslayer That DOT rain coat just screams stealth Dang Metal, now we are critiqing fishing apparrel? lol DB - darn shame you were not wearing BLOOD RED shirt - then the world-famous photog Becks could have snapped your picture for the cover of FlyFisherman magazine. Reminds me of the old timer awhile back asking a young hunter why he pizzed away his money on scent lock hunting clothes. After the young man dribbled all the marketing hoopla justifying his expenditures, the old guy asked if his rifle and scope were sealed in a plastic bag - so bambi could not smell the gun oil. Nice Fish DB !!!

ORIGINAL: salmotrutta The hookpoint was in the near side of jaw/ fly pretty big. Not sayin anything derogatory, but the near side hook penetration argument is nothing but a myth/fallacy. Lots of split-second physics going on at time of hookset. If it's in the mouth and you got the fish to shore good enough.

You mean I've been fooling myself for all these years? I've really been lining all those crappy and gills. Dammit I'm so stupid. Its that hook being inside their mouths pointing out that has been confusing me. Just like with salmon. Who knew? For those that don't want to believe there is no proof. I'm old enough to have gone thru this with steelhead. First it's they won't hit. Then when shown fair hooked fish it changes to only little ones hit. Then it's only males. Then your lining them. Blah blah blah. Whatever!

crappie & gills: waxworm in da mouth, jig hook pierced through fish's eye socket... toss in bucket, repeat, don't retreat.

Well jack; what was the current condition of the leaves when you were just up? Although the weather is going to get cooler I don't believe there is any frost predicted in the 10 day forecast; we m ay very well get a late one this year...

Very few leaves in water when I was there, but in a couple days a good wind could bring the hatch.By the way frost is not the factor but length of daylight :)

More leaves two weeks ago when I was up, when I was up on friday not many at all. When the wind picks up a bit they will start to drop, couple more days of nice though.

That looks like a good time. How long a hike? How heavy a pack? Nice to have those young legs. Love the new hunting beer cans. Blaze orange so some whackjob doesn't blast it out of your treestand (a mind is one thing but a beer is really a terrible thing to waste). Nothing better than beer and guns.

Hike was a mile but elevation gain was huge, quick. Pack first trip was 38 # s which included tent/sleeping bag/clothes/raft/rods & food 2nd trip weighed about 60#'s of Blaze Orange cans only, but man they were light carying back though. We left no trace only foot prints..

How do you keep the beer cold? Dunkin in cool stream water wouldn't do the trick for me - at least this time of year.

One word........JEALOUS.......I would love to just take a pack in the woods and relax for a couple days. For some reason, the wife doesn't think it would be a good time with our nine month old??? Typical women, always bringing us down...

ORIGINAL: pafisher DSR reports another good push of Salmon and CHROME! I don't want to hear it, Jack!!!!!! I asked my wife to take some time off at the end of the month,so we could have a mini-vacation, but I have zero time now. I'll just have to grit my teeth. If you go again, try to limit the descriptions of big steel, my sanity's at stake. Charlie

Nice spot, HT. I was home chauffering my daughter and waiting for my wife to return from her 17 day cruise. Payback's a biotch next year! It is also reassuring to find out that others get skunked in the ponds occasionally. If it was as cold at night as it was in the Moose River Plains the weekend after labor day, the beer was plenty cold in the AM, and then you just find a spring hole. Once I figure out how to post photos, I'll put some up. But I didn't take any of the two 10" trout that were the total catch for 4 days back there. L13

ORIGINAL: salmotrutta And here it is! A fish I caught with its mouth closed and the fly hooked on the under side of its under jaw. If you look close enough you can see the line being pulled which is revealing that the hook is upside down and hooked uber the jaw outside of the mouth... no blow up or enhancing assistance needed to see this one Its not that I even care where or how you fish mr. John zombie; its the fact that I know how much you care... and since you have been so inclined to snicker and point out the way I fish without ever meeting me or fishing with me ;that its my pleasure to point this one out. Especially since you are mr anti snagger; anti trestle; anti bobbers/spinning gear etc. Etc....
