widdling wooden lures

ive been messin around for a few years now carving pieces of wood ive found laying aroung and was curious of what knowledge some of you may have on making wooden lures. i dont know really much about it, like i said i just been messin around. was interested on what woods are supposed to be used? where to buy hardware (hooks,eyelets,paint,decals,etc)? any other interesting info. just a hobbie i wanna take up.

    balsa and cedar are/were the most popular. years ago when i made some lures i got supplies from this company(bought supplies here before internet. may be better places now). www.jannsnetcraft.com
     
    wiley lures and leo lures in ellwood city,pa(1/2 hour from cranberry) started making lures by hand and have become some of the best/most popular musky lures in the world.
