looking for a boat to take up lake Erie, any advice as what to look for?  was out there last year with my cousin who had a 22ft hardtop which seemed to take the waves pretty well.    thanks for any advice or information!

How much do you want to spend?

    Less than $10K...

    More than $30K...

Yep, how much do you want to spend? Always fun spending other peoples money!

walleye.com has a decent list of erie capable boats for sale. Sometimes good deals pop up and you have to be fast.

What are you towing with and how far or are you going to keep it docked? Do you want to be able to use it easily on the inland lakes with a kicker or just on big water/rivers? Are you going to strictly fish or have to ski/tube and pleasure boat with the family on it?

If strictly fishing on big water and not much towing, I'd look into a 22'-25' towable hard top. (never know when you want to hit the spring or fall time salmon/trout on Ontario).

If you want an all around big water boat (for fishing, skiing, tubing), I'd get a 23'-26' Walk Around with a hard top t-top and some seats in front of the cabin in the bow (to keep the wife and kids happy). Make sure all the rod holders, riggers and planers are easily removable.

If you want to tow around to inland lakes/rivers and be highly mobile, I'd go with a 18'-20' deep V aluminum w/ a small kicker, canvas top, windshield, and canvas for the bow (for the rough water days). You'll have to pick and choose your days more on the big pond but you'll still be able to launch at the deeper launches on the inland, HP limited lakes.

Or, just bite the bullet and get a 27'-31' Tiara and roll in style.

buy the biggest boat you can afford. i have a 19 ft walk around. its a nice boat and handles the lake well. i have a half ton truck and i didn't want to buy a new truck just to drag a bigger boat.
the problem isnt handling the waves, it's  storage space. its amazing the amount of gear you can aquire.
i just dont have room for all my stuff. its amazing how much more room a 21 or 22 ft boat has over a 19.
