water levels

so as most know the water went up to 750 this weekend for the scheduled white water release. they are gradually backing it down in increments but tommorrow they will be backing it down to 165... yes, 165... i see no substantial rain in the 10 day forecast... i'll be up next weekend myself; it could be a good time to start the late night rain dance...

And to make it worse it all comes from the top of the holding ponds. It's fer sure they aren't looking out for the fishes, or even the power seeing how they drained all of that Spring Rain water (so I hear).Let's hope the fishes find some nice Cool Springs to line up in or get to the Cool Lake before they become Crayfish food.

hey salmo; i am convinced the summer runners are much smarter than people give them credit for. there is plenty of spring and shaded deep water for them to find. i actually know someone who snorkels the river pretty regularly and they have told me in the summer months when he says a brown/steelhead/or atlantic; he will see it for days and sometimes weeks in the same spot which leads me to believe they can zero in right on a spring if necessary. it's also good to see that they step the water down gradually after the white water release. my feeling is there are a fair amount of fish that came in with this shot. many might have went back to the lake though as that is very common... when i was up last weekend the water didn't feel like 70 yet... luckily the ten day forecast has some cooler days in it rather than 90's... lets just hope for the best

Several years ago (10?) I was up there just before the UFZ opened and it was loaded with fish. While walking just above the Cemetery hole I see this spin outfit hidden among the brush along the water. So I picked it up and it was all rigged and ready to go,I carried it out and thru it in my car and still have it.So I think they are n't as unmolested as we would like to believe.
I fished it on the opener that year and never since,it was a three ring circus! The water was warm that year and many fish died from misshandling, multiple releases, etc.

DB.. Im just saying it's not a sustainable
lake run summer fishery.. Thats all.. I have seen many more dead fish in June>Aug on the banks then you have pictures of (ribbin ya man..)but thats the truth.. It's just not there man and I don't see it ..
A water temp report from the weekend release was 71 deg at day break..
Do I give the fish credit for hitting the few cold springs ? Yes, If you want to fish for them , have at it.. Is it sustainable ? No Fin' way..
Not trying to bust your chops but to say on a public forum that you can go fish a spring hole on the salmon river in 92 degree weather for atlantics ,steelhead or browns ??

    My advice
Hire a charter and Fish the Lake instead , you'll have much more fun..

We will be out there soooon....

tuna, where do i start............................ whatever man.... notice the pics i posted from last week, all smallmouths with smallmouth rigs on the end of my line... need not say no more... but in reality, if i wanted to wet a line for a sumer run (which i want to sometime soon; hopefully) i can rightfully so...unless they close the river in the summer months... so maybe it should be left at that (just ribbin back)... for the pictures from the past, maybe you'll see more oneday... but i will add as i've said in a previous post, my pics that i have of fish (maybe 200 at most) are a fraction of my catches through the 22 years of fishing up there now..(why am i trying to justify myself??? i guess its just my nature ;)...

hey jack, there have been two times in the winter back a number of years ago when ive caught guys coming out of the church hole with spin rigs when its still dark...with a 30 pack of empty beers one time...lol... people and situations like this are inevitable and are never going to go away;ever;in the whole world... in their mind; they feel as if they have the right to fish where ever and however... i don't think that mindest will ever disappear... everyone has their own way of rebelling i guess... both instances i chose to not comment to the "guilty" individuals... to say the least, they probably had fun...

Been sittin home laughin my butt off.  Never actually dunked anybody but have come close-weelll cept that one time up in Scotia-but then like ya say -who woulda  actually got dunked when the chips were down.
Didnt mean ta start a dunkin contest - specially at my age - I'd be the wet one.
Used to be a bit 'opinionated' now an then but have grown outa it. Ya hafta grow outa it when ya get old --or get dunked.
Still fun to think about though
Yer only young once- enjoy it- but YOU might be the wet one.

    Retired Guy:

Isn't it amazing how we mellow with age just like fine fishing.  No more side arm casting when it gets too crowded next to you or crossing lines.  Nice to enjoy the great outdoors in style.  Who knows - once we get to that stream in the sky we will have plenty of time for the good life.

ive dunked somebody once, i had 4 friends of mine with me in pineville, i kinda was an improv guide, and somebody decided to try and snag with a prehistoric weighted treble... long story short, i spoke my mind, exchanged a few pleasentries... then i noticed a gigantic horsefly on his cheek... so me being the nice guy i am i smacked it off his cheek then slipped and fell into the water.

Had a coupla guys come over nicely and tell me how to fish the right way some time ago when the saw me fishing 'my way' . It was much appreciated and led to a far more rewarding experience on the river.
Funny how somebody who never lifted any place in the entire Northeast and Scotia had always thought it was different at the SR till then.
Anybody who doesnt wanna listen or learn something is NEVER gonna change and aint worth the effort.
