Salmo, did you send a pm to me? I must have missed it. Sorry that doesn't fly. There is a real good chance I actually know the river better than you do believe it or not, just not for smallies. I have fished it when the only way to get to it was via snowshoe, I have fished it in the best conditions, I have fished it when the river was flooded and the fish were running up drainage ditches. I have fished every inch and every method legal. I simply asked for a little help (and yes you are right, private messaging is a good thing- I use it often), do you seriously think that a river with as much hype as the SR is going to get any more from a post about smallmouths. People come to the salmon river for one of two reasons... They are chasing silver or less likely they are looking for a vacation spot (perhaps a place they miss from earlier days since their jobs took them hundreds of miles away). Not really angry, but a little disappointed about your attitude although you did not offer assistance... Griffon

I don't care about that. Everyone knows fish live under stumps. Just saying pm dude instead of mentioning it on 2 threads maybe. Then again who really cares I guess. Geffin- So glad to see someone knows the river better than me. I wouldn't go around bragging about that if I were you. I don't know the river that well, but I do know how to catch fish here, there and just about anywhere. I ain't no slouch. This much you can bank on.

PM sent... you have been hooked and released for another day samentrotter. No spot burning rule was broken period (you are a moderator on a private website, at least understand the rules before you chastise others) It is a beautiful river, knowing every inch of it is something anyone could/should be proud of. Silver can bring out the best and worst of people, but the resource is still beautiful and priceless. Perhaps you should appreciate the resource, the locals, and yes even the visitors a little more. Best of Luck, Griffon.

Considering the owners of this site have maps of the river on the site complete with fishing holes and how to fish the river with different gear I saw no harm. first rule of fishing- the big ones are under deadfalls, stumps, etc.. That'll be $250- 1/2 day guide fee to walk with the Salmo. I guess you should spend a little $ in the fishusa tackle shop too if you choose to download the maps....

Again, ignorant comments made by someone who thinks they know more than they do. For what it's worth, I seldom find a need to buy tackle. You are a guide on a river (not the only one to ever pull that gig...) and a moderator on a private board. If you really want to go back and forth, let's discuss the best brook trout stream to fish between Pulaski and Millinocket. Trust me, there are people who can educate you if you will listen, hence the reason I asked a question I really did not know much about with hopes of learning something. Dimebrite was nice enough to supply information, and I may (or may not) take it from there. I hope you behave more professionally in your service than you do here. Again, best of luck.

No, let's not waste our time with brookies. The salmo has no worries. How does this make you feel? You seem to be an angry person, maybe you should ask for help on that topic also.

Not angry at all. Just don't like trolls that hijack threads. Particularly when they are moderators. There is not another moderator on this website that would conduct themselves as you have. Perhaps Dan would be interested in your behaviors and your obvious dislikes towards FishUSA's business practices.

Read what I posted before you spew. It's obvious who's doing the trolling here, and it isn't the salmo. If you don't like it go to the other forums here where the mods. will instruct you on how and you can post. If you wanna hang here whatever. Nobody else here is having problems and yes- I have the mod. buttons and no I don't use them much because we're all big boys. Perhaps you should learn to chill out and have fun or go to the other places where they enjoy your current provoking/whining. We are here to talk about fishing & play a little. Yeah, tell em' I said that. Please don't misspell anything, I wouldn't want to come across as unprofessional.

Seems about right, you chastise your members for sharing information totally within the guidelines of the website, don't share any yourself, then claim that their comments really don't bother you but then blame others who call you out... Sounds like a lot of fun. Perhaps you need to chill out or maybe even grow up a bit, just sayin ... Here is the solution. The next time someone asks a question, feel free to answer it. If you are feeling that your answer might violate the terms and conditions of the website (ie spot-burning) feel free to use the pm key. If others choose to provide information but do not violate any rules and you have nothing constructive to add, shut your pie hole ... FYI and back on topic, there are numerous medium to large size streams the flow into the great lakes which do not contain many (or any) decent smallmouths through the summer months once the spawn has completed (thinking you may not have known that due to your limited ability to provide information ). Rather, those fish opt to head for deeper water in the ranges of 20-35 feet (typically we catch them on dropshots, tubes, tungsten spoons or a variety of vertical baits). On the other hand, some tribs will hold smallies (typically not the 5-8 lb. hammers of spring) throughout the summer and my question was simply whether or not the river was worth pursuing. You started the controversy and need to get over yourself. To this point, I have asked a question and you still have not offered a single bit of constructive information regarding the river and it's summer fishery so feel free to jump in and stay on topic at any time. Thanks Again, Your Happy Friend Griffon.

Yes they do... come over to Erie sometime. An 8 pound smallie is huge but not out of the realm of possibility. Every year anglers land fish in that class. Dunkirk and Northeast would be good starting points.

I see that, 8# 4 oz. state record. I thought they only got about 7ish. I honestly have no urge to catch them, but if others are Bass fishing they aren't on my fav. trout waters. I am strictly a stream fisherman. Gottum has been trying to get me on his lake boat for years- just not for me. Got sea sick bad when I was a kid. Never again.

You've got a lot to learn when it comes to mod baiting. As far as hijacking threads it should be a hanging offense. I can't imagine anything more obnoxious and babyish, except for some Dbag whining about it. Stay, go, troll ,whine. Whatever! No one here thought they were missing anything before your first post and I'm pretty sure that no one, except maybe DB will miss you if you stop posting. You are a nobody till someone with cred on the board vouches for you or until you prove it by your posts. So far you've got neither going for you. Oh I almost forgot. Welcome aboard.

No doubt the steelies are smaller over in Erie for the most part. My biggest over here was slightly over 13 lbs. My largest came from Maxwell years ago and was 19 lbs. on the nose. I hope to crack the 20 lb. mark someday, I guess time will tell... I have not cracked the 20 lb. brown yet either but came withina half pound at Johnson's one year. Good Luck this coming season.

98.9% are 6 lbers.. Conrats - you gotz the Needle in the Haystack. I fished the Erie "criks" once... Once was enough for me. Crowd overload. Can't see takin a 6 hr drive again. Different strokes 4 different folks. p.s. IMO - the Slammin River will soon mirror Erie Streams with Steelhead fish size - thanks to the unscientific,PETA-like,feel-good,PC BS creel limit reductions.

Yes there are more people every year on the Erie Cricks, but it's just like the SR if you walk you can find lots of room. However if you hit it right it's like a fantasyland for Steel.I have had several banner days out there. One day my friend and I was on a stretch of water on Elk and shared it with 6 other guys, this is about 1/3 mile stretch long.We hit a massive run of fish and fished from dawn to dusk with no break except a quick snack and bodily relief.I'm not into counting fish but a young fellow from Ohio was counting, eveyone was catching at the same rate and Ohio said he counted 42 at 2:00 PM,if he caught that number I probably had 60 -70 by dark! Also, among the Steel there were a few Brownies,I brought one to hand and it was a nice male about 28 -30".Four of those other guys fishing that day were from Switzerland, they flew in to fish Erie and they were all smiles that day! When you hit it like that it brings you back for more, but last year it was not good because lack of water.

Have no idea what this has to do with the topic of the thread but... most times when I find a "spot" where I am continuously catching fish it becomes very boring to me.. The challenge is gone and at that point I move.. I read all the time how folks have sore arms from hooking 50 or more salmon > fish , in a day.. Really ? That may be possible (I guess) but what’s the challenge in staying in one spot hooking that many.. Seems more like shooting fish in a barrel to me.. A few fish an outing keeps my arms sore enough but I'd rather keep my legs limber and learn as much as possible about the fishery.. I mean no disrespect to those who enjoy catching large numbers and that is all fine too but only suggesting there is more then just catching..

tuna, you have a great point... and there is satisfaction and gratification that comes with the pursuit in itself rather than the fish itself... there are those days though where every run and every pocket and every shallow has fish here and there... some days going from pocket to pocket.. or after chasing a fish and releasing it; you step out and fish the water in front of you... it's all a matter of preference at the given time; some guys are mixxed which includes myself... somedays i want experience, and other days i want numbers; which IMO is an experience in itself...
