I have a good friend who lives there and guides on the Dean. I gotta get there to do a Bigfoot hunt.

I had a fun evening hammering the smallies on topwater. This is a stretch of the Hudson  20 miles above Troy, NY.  I park my yak on the shoals and wade fish when my butt gets sore. Smallies and steelies are the hardest fighters in the sweetwater, in my silly **** opinion.I love topwater.  I've only caught one steelie waking a  bunny fly- left me wanting to do it more!!!!!!!!!!!

In this stretch, and considering the low light, I'm gonna guess it ate a small bullhead or chub. When the bullheads are spawning in April in a creek mouth, I use a large brown bunny fly with a t-14 shooting head,  and have taken some real trophy size smallies. Several have had  bullheads in their gullets and took the fly anyway. Greedy fish. Look forward to seeing your trip pics.

I will try not to bore you too much and only give some highlights.. Sometimes you see one rock , you seen them all..

so here is the only place we ate on strip.. decent food for reasonable price, unless you buy drinks..

Sitting in hard rock this place was right across the street.. Just the looks alone I had to go in..Low and behold the home of 120 oz beers..

Now I guess this is why people love Vegas..

so enough of that crap.. Here is where I felt good..
Red Rocks Canyon, great place $7.00 carload.. Spent all day in 105 deg temps. hiking around. Trails galore and free roam..

We wanted to hike up to the base but in the heat only made it a little past the pines..

Would have loved to hike up into the pass but only made it to the base... Still AWESOME but 105 is just too darn hot..

Now on to the Grand Canyon, not many pics here .. The helicopter could only best be described as YOU HAD TO BE THERE..

standing on the canyon floor was awe inspiring to say the least..

Jumped on a boat and headed up the muddy river, every bit as good as the chopper ride..

finally to the "other" tour.. Lame as lame could be.. if I had one thing to suggest.. Go to the South or North Rim.. I have been there 4 other times.. WAY better for FAR LESS money.. $25.00 got the carload into the National Park for 7days..
Here at the West rim (skywalk)it is privately owned and the cheapest entry was $45.00pp which gave a lame 2 stop bus tour not including skywalk (extra) .. They keep you pretty corralled so you don’t wander..
Still the Grand Canyon is a must see for anyone.. I'd just suggest the South or North, much cheaper and nicer with free roam..

They call this Eagle Point.. can you see why ??

And the other stop.. Guano Cave Point..

Now obvously I have hundreds of Grand Canyon photos, past & present.. Jut a few recent ones here..

Great shots. It seems it's "pay to play" even out there in the middle of that vast area.Does that river always run muddy and if so why?

Really folks I have found Arizona to be one of the Most Free states.. My Daughter lived there for 4 years and I made many visits spending a lot of time there. I was totally amazed at the amount of land there is to explore for free be it , atv,foot,4wd vehicle, dune buggy, horse or camper.. Tons of National Park that you just GO.. People squat in motor homes all winter there.. And like I said the entrance to the Nation Park pat of the Canyon is DIRT cheap.. You can stay there per CARLOAD for 7 days on only $25.00.. p.s. heard they raised it to $30.00 per carload..

only got stuck on reservation property at the West Rim where , yes it was not cheap there..

nice pics of GC HT - but a camera (no matter how good it is) does not do that place justice...

I hiked to the bottom once - many many moons ago...

Vegas was a sh*thole back in the 80's - can only imagine how much worse it is today.

Thanks for the pics HT. The view from the bottom. And the ones from the Grand Canyon are good , too.  Have you ever been through or to, Prescott, AZ? It's a great town, with alot going for it.

Thanks:

Pa.. In 4 out of the 5 times I have been there the Colorado has been a muddy mess.. Reason , any slight rain causes lots of silt and erosion.. It takes at least a week (so told) to clear. I was there for 5 days prior to that pic and we had no rain..
The 3rd pic from the bottom is the depth it dug in only the last 8 years.. Pretty impressive for a dam controlled river..
The 1 and only time I have seen it clear was this past December when I swam the river on Christmas day, I was there for 34 days.. It was 92 degs. where I was in Yuma..

Dime, T already gave me the exact step for step, the pics are for reference points. I've fished  many new waters and new fisheries with success. This time I'm going in with a ton of info to work off of. I'll probably get skunked. But that's not the fault of anyone except the fish and me.  I'll send you some contact info before I split. I hope I run into you. I can fish OK and am  pretty quick on picking up new techniques, but watching Tuna or yourself would shorten the learning curve to about dead straight.

For sure charlie, I owe you some scratch for that 10 weight line; I don't want you to think im ducking out on you; i'll be up with a newbie friend of mine who just bought that cabelas switch combo in an 11' 8 weight.. he hooked 2 steelies this past february so he's stoked and ready... between helping him; banging nails; and hangin tough... there's no reason why I can't squeeze in some time for a gentleman like yourself... i'll extend the invite ahead of time to you; you are welcome to stop by the place anytime...

Sooner than later our lines will be tight...

Drove from Phoenix to the Canyon one nice day in February a number of years ago. Everything from cactus desert to great rock formations to Pine forest to the Canyon itself. Saw Pigs, Mulies, Elk and  Pronghorn. -an not just one of each either.
Snowed like hades most all the way back- those folks must not be used to snow cause the accidents and rollovers were commonplace.

my daughter lived in yuma and my cousin still in phoenix.. i have driven that route to the canyon 4 times 2 being back to new york.. it's an awesome trip to say the least.. i'd love to get back to sedona and explore for some streams to fish .. well daughter is back here so don't know if the chance will come again but i'd drive that again anytime..

The Exact mileage from her door to mine:

From flagstaf looking at the San Fran mt. 12,000 feet.

i was so sick of seeing these after awhile :

That when I seen this I had to give it a hug:

We seen many of these just roaming:

along with many Mt. Lion tracks but no big cats..

this is th UFZ as most would recognize; although this shot was back in ''01... notice how much more the water was spread out then; a lot has changed since then... i think this area is at least half of the width from bank to bank in these days and the north bank has a high bed of rocks now...

i know most have heard about august of 98 from myself and maybe a few others on other forums; this pic here was august 97 around the third week... id say about 100-200 kings came in to the joss when the water came up and they got stuck and rested unstressed in the pool for me, my frined and 3 other guys... we had great action all day long... it was nothing like 98, but still just as memorable...

Dime, thanks for pix. Especially the one when you were only "pennybrite". I think we all remember the fish that got us "hooked". I know I do. Just have to figure out how to scan it in. Might take a while.I'm sure, like you, I have my Dad to thank.

This is the largest I've gotten on a dry fly  (foam beetle). I've been sightfishing them for over  15 years and have caught them in 10 different states. I have a whole bunch of favorites, but a pink worm I tie for steelies has creamed the carp this year. My favorite carp rod is my 5 wt. xp. , that's what this one was whipped with.

Charlie

Dude fighting carp on a #6 gave me tendonitis that still comes back 20 years later.

WB, I think I have alot of itis and osis and a few other latin ailment things. Maybe some torn alphabet soup on top.  I'm just too stupid to quit.  Carp ain't steel or shark, but they are pretty fun when the others aren't to be had. Have to talk someday about them.
