ORIGINAL: fichy http://s272.photobucket.com/albums/jj191/bluefish1957/august%202011/?albumview=slideshow I just got back from this trip and thought I'd share. All fish were caught on a 7'6" 3 wt. trout bum. The 5 lb'er I got sightfishing a crayfish fly in an inlet at 10,000 feet. The goldens were at 11,000. We did several backpacking trips.  We also went to Death Valley and the South Rim. Next year we hope to go down to Bright Angel Creek after cutts. I thought Tuna would like the pic of Old Dinah, the borax carrier that replaced the 20 mule teams in 1894. Pretty big machine for that time period. Now that's out of my system, I'm ready for some real fishin'. Charlie Thse pic's need a place of their own my brother..

ORIGINAL: draketrutta Fichy - are the goldies only found at higher elevation streams? Sweet pics True goldens and golden-rainbow hybrids that are similar in appearance to the true goldens are all found in lakes and streams above 10,000. They have a short window without ice every year to feed and spawn. This trip was into the Cottonwood Lakes basin in the Golden Trout Wilderness above Lone Pine, Ca. The lakes and creeks are from 10,500 to 11,200. Brookies are also found that high, bows and browns generally lower. Thanks for the kind comments, guys. This trip was a....trip. Charlie

drake I have no idea about that hosting site.. photo bucket is what I know.. If it's the same idea then the only thing I can think of is you are changing something other then just the img from caps.. maybe an extra space somewhere or something you don’t even realize. At least that is what happens on photo bucket.. From that site it may be a total different way to post them here, you may not need to change anything at all.. Other then that man,, don’t know what else to say except keep trying different things..

DB, they were introduced, I believe in the late 1800's. Many lakes in the Sierras are being poisoned to allow the return of the Yellow Leg Frog to the high altitude lakes, especially in Yosemite. Our govt. doing its wonderful thing again. Trout supposedly eat all the frogs. I looked for some for bait. Drake, beautiful shot of the bees on the sunflower.

Now that's out of my system, I'm ready for some real fishin'. Charlie Thse pic's need a place of their own my brother.. Well fichy, I'm gonna keep bringing this to the top for awhile.. It's just spectacular and reminds me of why I wont stop asking folks to share pictures.. Unless they are too scared to..lol.. My daughter lived in southern AZ for a few years and I have been to the great canyon (south rim) a few times.. Many of those shots look almost exactly like places I have stood.. The place is breath taking to say the least.. I was there once in March and that was an AWESOME time to go. Did the drive from her place to my place twice so your in car shot was such a flash back as well.. Did a temp (in march 68deg ) shot then a mileage pic, think it was 3,101. one way to my drive way.. That picture of the old steam tractor was killer.. Now I bet that took some blood, sweat and BIG balls to run that thing around.. On my trips took my fly rod but time constraints I never got a chance to use it.. Last dec I was in southern AZ for a month , it's as desert as desert can be there.. I did do some fishing but mainly it was a joke and time constraints once again kept me close to my daughters home.. So again I'm grateful to see the things I missed out on like the Sierras.. Absolutely beautiful place giving me reason to want that my to do list.. Have a friend that goes (used to) often so maybe I can hitch a ride sometime.. My place I went was the Sedona mts. and I think we hit a little over 9,000 feet.. The San Fran Mt. there was listed at 12,000 but didn’t want to go there in march.. We were cool with 9.. The trout you caught are , what else can I say but Amazing ,spectacular & fantastic.. Great colors, par markings and I would assume all but browns & bows wild fish.. Glacier lakes (from what little I DID read db) are the primary targets for those big fish ? The cutties & specs in the run off streams ? Totally looks like you had a blast man and right at home.. Sorry if I keep repeating things but Thanks Again for sharing and letting me dream a bit.. Peace & Tuna Not trying to jack you up but this is one of my favorites mounted on the wall.. The wife was standing in the safe zone. and from a far

HT, I use to live in Wickenburg, between Prescott and Phoenix. Oak Creek around Sedona isn't bad trout fishing. The White River over by Show Low is good, too. I also lived in the Sierras for a number of years and worked on trails and as a wilderness ranger for the USFS. As I already consider you a fishing pal, ask me any questions and I'll reply in triplicate. Someday we may even plan a trip together. I think DB might want to go too... Nothing like campfire jams where the sky is filled with galaxies, not just a few stars. Cool pics out on that pinnacle.... No shots like that for me, I was taking my 92 year old Mom around before hitting the airport in Lost Wages. I had brought her to visit a sister in Phoenix. It's a pretty cool ,small world. People sharing their lives make it even better. Thanks. Charlie

VERY NICE !!! you got too much going on with the text title.. all I did was take one pic starting from here and change the caps img to lower case.. that it no extra spaces or move anything... Thanks for sharing I LOVE IT !!! another thing if you change it in your photobucket or where it came from on your computer you will get the box you see below... So once you put it somewhere example ( my sr salmon 2011) dont move it .. Chose wisely..

From the Experts Most anglers don't know how to tell a Skamania Steelhead from a regular Steelhead. Well, it's simple folks. Just look between the fish's dorsal fin (the one on top of the fish's back) and it's tail. You'll notice there's no adipose fin there. That's the fin that looks like your thumb when you're hitchhiking. The Salmon River NY hatchery clips the adipose fin. That's the simplest way to tell. The other ways are by taking a closer look to see if the fish has it's pectorial fins (the ones in front by it's head). Sometimes you'll see one clipped half off or both pectorial fins clipped completely. Why is this you ask? This is the way the hatchery tells what year the fish is. Meaning, they can tell if it's a 2002, 2003, 2004 Skamania. The hatchery also clips one of their back fins...the one close to their tail.
