Silver: Amazing job done by Indiana Fisheries with their hatcheries. I have fished Trail Creek many times while out visiting my family in Valparaiso. In the Fall we usually fish Port of Indiana for some great steelhead. Lake Michigan has also had a nice recovery of their walleye/smallmouth bass population. Eagle Ed ORIGINAL: SilverKype I could have been more specific in saying great lakes origin. That fish is from trail creek near mixsawbah hatchery in Indiana.

You're killing me with the fresh clams! I keep drooling on the keyboard. I think I just shorted something out. It just dried out from the last clam pix.Did you ever meet a girl with rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes?

Hey; for the carp; try a glow bug as for the long rods, i dont see a place for them on a small river.. thats why I just took the plastic off the cork after 4 years ..LOL.. Will and did say that I used it on the SR once this past season for steelies when my casting (right) arm was shot.. still that long rod (s) are not for me there. and if another angler puts a hook in my clothing again it wont be for them either.. glow bug... hummmm. I did have a few chasers today, closest to getting a look so far, on a big purple bunny leech.

Nice to hear. I have a carp stream right down thestreet from me that holds huge carp. I mean huge. I should try to entice one of them someday soon. It always seems in september they are all hearding up in packs. Do you know if that's their spawning season? Oh yeah; for the glow bug; why not???? I might have to try it myself. Maybe a tan glow bug with a tandem chaser sparsely tied with white maribou?????

I'm not a Carp expert but they spawn in late spring early summer I think, and if you have something that looks like a crayfish that might work as I hear they like them.

if you have bushes near the water that drop seeds or berries a glow bug might work. the carps like their fruit... best bait IMO is strawberry flavored corn meal boilies - but they don't cast very good via a fly rod..

This is the largest I've gotten on a dry fly (foam beetle). I've been sightfishing them for over 15 years and have caught them in 10 different states. I have a whole bunch of favorites, but a pink worm I tie for steelies has creamed the carp this year. My favorite carp rod is my 5 wt. xp. , that's what this one was whipped with. Charlie

Great pictures folks and keep them coming... Maybe we can get more discussion about what there is out there besides how to snag, line or lift (all the same) fish.. fichy: I have friends who are big time into carp fishing.. Mainly with bait but man they catch some GIANTS... I used to fish for them most every day when I was a kid.. Using bait but it was fun.. Now I'm just trying to see if "I" can entice one on a fly.. I know it can be done but just havent put in much effort in learning how.. There are always plenty out back in the creek and some mighty big ones at that.. Sight fishing of course to them as I do salmon but they are so spooky and unintrested in anything I throw at them, well they did come check out the bunny fly yesterday.. I have tried naturals and flashy flies but they just keep moving past them.. Someone told me to use a heavy jig and bounce it in the mud to stir it up.. They seem to move toward me when I kick up the mud so that may be the ticket.. Any advice offered would be welcomed.. I will try the glow bug too..

HT, Tie a size 12 hare's ear nymph with a little flash and a tungsten head or a small dumbell. Add some rubber legs. Scarlet, pink or chartreuse san juan worms with a beadhead are also good. Small crayfish flies tied with dumbells are good, also. Cast 12-18" from tailers or those looking to feed. If they are mudding-put it right on them!!!!! Give the fly very small twitches until they move towards it. Strike after you see them pick it up or you feel a small amount of tension on the line. Don't bother with fish cruising or laying up on the surface, they are impossible. Find the feeders and feed them. There's alot more info and feeding scenarios than this, but what the heck, I'm an amature and I don't feel like arguing. Charlie

Even crazier is this! Chew up some pink bubble gum and twist it on a 1/8 oz. jig. Place it out in front of the feeding carp and twitch it through the mud. I know this is like bait fishing, but it use to always work for carp on the Delaware. Eagle Ed

thanks for the info but it kinda defeats my goal.. I'm quite sure I could catch one using plastics or bait.. Maybe if it cools down later I will give it another shot.. I think its about waiting (looking) for the feeders and not worrying about the cruisers.. and the hares ear... know I have shown these before but on 4 lb ultra lite they were a blast.. Twin tail jig was the ticket ..

I have not fished for carp in many moons, but I was under the impression that carp are very leary of anything that feels unnatural - like a jig - and they will reject it quicker than quick. Alot of sites - especially the Euro fishing sites - describe setting up rigs where the bait is dangled away from the hook - sorta like the latest "bead craze" on the Slamin river. I believe you guys, after all, the Euros don't even require their wimmens to shave...

So today I had my oldest boy out on my favorite spring creek, and got out fished. I totally blew the shot of the Brown Trout, but it was a plump 14 or so incher. Good fish on top for these wild Fish.

That's beautiful water- looks like one of those English chalk streams you pay about a grand a day to fish. I 've had little chance to fish spring creeks (other than Hat Creek in California) and would certainly like to. I need to take some Pa. trips, I think. Thanks for the pic. You can never get outfished by your kids enough. Charlie

http://s272.photobucket.com/albums/jj191/bluefish1957/august%202011/?albumview=slideshow I just got back from this trip and thought I'd share. All fish were caught on a 7'6" 3 wt. trout bum. The 5 lb'er I got sightfishing a crayfish fly in an inlet at 10,000 feet. The goldens were at 11,000. We did several backpacking trips. We also went to Death Valley and the South Rim. Next year we hope to go down to Bright Angel Creek after cutts. I thought Tuna would like the pic of Old Dinah, the borax carrier that replaced the 20 mule teams in 1894. Pretty big machine for that time period. Now that's out of my system, I'm ready for some real fishin'. Charlie
