"One Fly" Updates.
Gentlemen, and Ladies,
Wellllll, It's almost time for me to post the sign-up post for the 2011 Version of the "One Fly". There will be the usual fun and games and this year we will hopefully be hosting some very deserving vets from Project Healing Waters. Mikastorm will be handling all the co-ordination for that part of the event.
As usual Skip and Debi will be taking care of coordinating all the food you want to bring, or donate, to be cooked at the event. A reminder; this is a "Pot Luck" type of event so please bring some food and a little bit more to share with others.
PXaTim will be arranging the "Night Before" Dinner for us again. This part of the event is "Pay-as-You-go".
And again pizes that you wish to donate will be accumulated by Mr. Slickfish and catagorized, this is also a very big undertaking so please get with him early.
Doubletaper will be running the games and I'm sure he will have something interesting to add to this years event.
Deetz 4352 will be holding a benefit Poker game to help with the Fruitbaskets program.
Jokerball and rookie and fisherlady will be helping with the set-up and registration, along with Skeeter.
Now for the meat of the event. It will be held Columbus Day Weekend; with the fishing and picnic on Saturday the 8th of October, the "Night Before" on Friday the
7th of October (time TBA) And the Poker Game TBA. All hangover recovery will be on Sunday the 9th.
This year I am going to have to ask that everyone who doesn't have an address on file with me to send me a e-mail with a good e-mail address so I can make sure they are legitimate enties. Last year we had 21 people who didn't show and who didn't notify me (us) so I am only to assume they were bogus entries. That kept 21 people who really wanted to attend out of the show. I have a limited number of slots open for attendees and I hate to waste them on somebodies idea of a joke.
I/we are going to do everything we can to make this years event a little better than last year, and with the help of all of you it can be. I have to thank everyone who has done soooo much over the years to make this what it is. It started with an idea between friends and has expanded to a pretty nice event.
I also have to ask everyone to PLEASE police your own actions. Don't drink too much, don't drop f-bombs around kids, and don't insult anybody (even in fun), and please be aware of your fishing actions. I will say that if I have to tell you about something, then it's already getting too late. And again I realize that with 150 people things won't go perfectly but if we all try jeest a leetle bit harder it will be just that much better.
This year the top prize will be a restored Pre-1910 bamboo rod. Hopefully with two tips (I have to fix one) Plus there will be many additional prizes that will come in. We have some outstanding builders and tyers who outdo themselves each year.
WHAT THE "ONE FLY" IS:
For those of you who don't know about the "One Fly"; it is a rendezvous type of event, held once a year, to promote fly fishing on the Erie Tribs and to promote catch-and-release fishing. We also try to raise a little bit of money for the Fruitbaskets for Landowners, in partnership with the Gem City Fly tyers. The object: You get one fly, of your choice, and you try to see how many steelhead/other fish you can catch and release in 4 hours time. With points being awarded for most length in inches. Then there is a big Pot Luck Picnic, with games, while we total up the scores. Then we award prizes. We have classes for: sub-juniors (10yrs and under), juniors (11-16yrs), Ladies (I won't ask ages), Open (16-59 years), and Seniors (60 years and over). All fishing in two person teams. I have added one new rule: Once you win the sub-junior you move up to junior, and once you win junior or ladies you move up to the open class. We're going to make Skeeter and Jolene work harder this year.
So if you have any positive comments about the event please feel free to post them, if you have questions please feel free to pm me. The sign-up posts will be appearing in a few days, after I get most of the questions answered. So mark the date on the calenders.
BTW: I need some volunteers to tie up this years give away flies. I'm thinking grey woolybuggers. About 150 or so. Plus I have some coins left over from last year.
ALSO, I would like to thank FishUSA for allowing us to post on their boards and all their help in making this event happen and Folleys End Campground for their support. I will be posting more support thanks as things happen..
AND THANK-YOU all for helping make this event as popular as it is: See you in October!
