yeah, thats about it. all of the shops in the area closed up over the years. basic baits can be bought at the gas station in Bakersville and I believe Pioneer Park has basic stuff as well.

    Jeb,

I stumbled across Kooser lake 2 weeks ago when the girlfriend dragged me to living treasure.  I'm not sure of the road but right where the living treasures road meet that main road there was a place that said live bait.  Once you get off the turnpike and make that left it will be on your right hand side.  Let me know how you do.  I walked around the lake and it looked very clear.  I was there about 10 minutes and saw the same guy hook into 2 fish.  He was fishing right near the beach with a noodle rod and tossing that thing as far as he could.

I've heard there are pike in there.  Anyone know if that's true?

That's Sarnelli's at the corner of 31 and 711.  They have can o' bait.  The BP at the Pike probably has can o' bait too.  If you need anything else, Red's or Caruso's in Mt. Pleasant.  I didn't know there was anything at Donegal Lake.

    Thanks guys,
I plan on hitting Kooser lake with the kids. If we do not do well, gonna pay to play at either Paradise or Laurel Hill trout farm. I love seeing my kids get excited when the catch fish.
Anybody hit Paradise this spring, how's the fishing been ?

An older gentlemen was there at the lake when I went as well.  He said that he and his wife get a cabin in the area every year and love it.  I just couldn't get over how clear the water in that lake was when I was there.

If you come up as far as the Somerset turnpike exit there is a bait shop on the road that goes to Jennerstown   After you get off the turnpike go left and it's about 4 or 5 miles out.  If you go as far as Barrons Furniture you went to far.  It's on the left going out and it is named something like Peddlars (bicycle)

if you're getting off at donegal, red's will be 10 miles round trip out of your way - scott's baits at donegal lake is much close.  pay toll and make left on 31, right past the dairy queen make left onto 711, stay on 711 and just after you go thru donegal (very small town) vere to the right (still 711). about a mile or two you'll see a left turn to donegal lake.  stay along the lake road about a mile and you'll see scott's on the left.  minnows and everything else.

Enjoy the clarity of Kooser while it lasts. They all kinds of runoff from Hidden valley and the weeds will get so thick its almost unfishable. I assume the fertilizers make the weeds as bad as they are. I seen pike in there when I was a kid, but havent seen them for years.

A gentlemen that was there fishing seemed pretty knowledgeable and he told me it was clear for most of the year due to it being feed with fresh springs.  Is that not the case?

It is fed from a spring. A short walk upstream will show you the majority of the source. I used to swim in it all the time as a kid, but no way will you get me in there now. Even in August its cold. Good for trout though. Its an odd plant that grows in there. I have never seen it grow anywhere else. The lake was dredged years ago, but its filled back up. I'll post pics as soon as I get my computer back from the shop (it has the pics)

Fished there yesterday and got nothing not even a stick fish...  The lake is kinda like the dead sea and the weeds are horrid.  Not going to lie i'd say grab a can o'bait wax worms and go to Donegal and catch bluegill till you are blue in the face...  And yea there use to be Pike in Kooser... I caught a 24" Toothy 4 years ago the weekend after opening day of trout and everyone looked at me like I was a maniac...  I don't even see any fish swimming around in that lake anymore...  As for bait shops the Cogo's down from Kooser has Can O'Bait, so does the Sarnellies and if you go to Scotts at Donegal you'll get anything you really could ask for from a tackle/bait shop. (The opinion of Kooser is how i've felt for about 3 years now.  I've had better luck at Laurel Hill and 100x better luck at Donegal.)
