Salmon Eggs

I never really used them, but how well do salmon eggs work for trout?  A friend
swears by pink salmon eggs.

I don't know if they still make them or not but back in the 70's when i trout fished a lot i used mikes cheese eggs with good results. I used to drain most of the oil off the jar and add a little salt to make the eggs harder.

Back before I got into fly fishing, pink eggs, wax worms, corn and orange powerbait were the TICKET! I had a few years where I had astromomical first days on those baits.

I tried everything under the sun you guys mentioned short of acid and could never get them to be the stiffness needed to hook.

They make tiny hooks called salmon egg hooks.  You shove the entire hook into the egg.  Only tried it a few times but the eggs stayed on a lot better.

Add salt to them.  I put just alittle bit in.  Shake them up and abit latter the firm up.  Stays on the hook better.

For the past few years I've had great results on Mikes oil pack shrimp pink and white salmon eggs. I also use the Erie single eggs for pellet heads. There have been times when I just destroyed trout on eggs and at times they would not touch them. This past saturday I fished Bald Eagle Creek and brought to hand 15 fish - not a one on eggs. The previous time I fished there I caught 11 and they were all on eggs. When they are hot you can't beat'un. This past thursday I caught 15 on eggs at a local stream and the following day only one.

Just yesterday we were fishing some fast water and I tried a pink salmon egg.  On the first cast
I had a hit and my egg was gone.  My buddy, who was fishing minnows, caught a real nice brown
as I was rebaiting.  Today he called me and asked me if I wanted my pink salmon egg back.  Here
when he filleted that brown, my pink salmon egg was found inside his brown.  I left him keep the egg.
