Peter Creek Browns

Where in peters are the brown trout? I have been fishing it since opening day every available opporutunity, and have only caught rainbows. I'm pretty sure there are browns in there. I've been using worms and powerbait. Would I have a better chance if I used spinnerbaits, or small crankbaits.

Powerbait dough isn't a great bait for brown trout. You can pick them up on drifted powerworms, but your best bet is often live bait (red worms, nightcrawlers or nightcrawler pieces, minnows). Rapalas and other similar lures can also be good, depending on the conditions.

To my knowledge they haven't stocked browns in quite a few yrs at peters, yrs back they use to stock bows, browns & a few palominos as well. But again, as far as i know they haven't stocked browns in yrs, strictly rainbows. Now i have caught 1 or 2 through the last few yrs, with 1 of them probably being one of the biggest trout i ever pulled outta peters (about a 18-inch or so brownie) So i'm "assuming" there are a few holdovers. And another thing to keep in mind is the raising & stocking program (trout) that south park middle schools had started a few yrs back. This a GREAT & educational program for the kids & when there trout reach legal size they stock them into peters, so this "could be a means" of browns being placed back into peters, but not entirely sure of that either??? But i know i & my fishing partner have only caught "a handful at best" of browns in the last 3-4 yrs now if not more.

Thanks. THat kinda stinks. Browns are more warm water tolerent, so they would probably do good in peters. I've got a few 2 and 3 inch rapala and rebel lures, so maybe I'll try a them every now and again. Rainbows don't usually take plugs, right?

Heck ya A rainbow will eat a plug... They love minnows or anything that looks like one.

The last time they stocked them was 2 years ago. I caught a good 20 of them that opening day, and haven't got one since. All smaller 10-12". Don't think Peters was stocked at all this year due to the rain.

Agree. Not this year yet but I had good luck with browns. I get them with nightcrawlers and spinnerbaits the most.

years ago when i was on the board for stocking that creek we were told to stock mostly rainbows because they are easier to catch and they didnt want to leave many late in the year when the creek got to low or frooze...so my opinion would be that your gonna have trouble catching browns there
