How to make powerbait?
I was wondering if anyone knew what "trout catnip" they put in powerbait. If not, are there any doughbait recipes that you know of that are just as good? I made a concoction of garlic, vanilla, orange food coloring, turkey, and flour. I caught nothing.

Stop snacking on it while you're fishing and it'll last longer. And your other brain cell might start working again.

If you just fish lakes, a jar of powerbait can last you weeks, but in a stream, 80 percent of the stuff get plucked off the hook by minnows. I don't put a whole ton of it on my hook, either. I put 2 pea-sized balls on the hook, or only one on a egg hook.

I saw on Ebay 1 time a powder mix you could buy & mix with water to make your own. Try a search and see what you can find. Have you ever tried a jig and float rig for the lakes. I catch way more trout on that set up than on paste baits.

ORIGINAL: tippecanoe cold manning up on a 13 year old? get real man srsly? Because a totally did my famous internet mind-reading act and profile analysis, and even though he didn't mention his age, I completely knew how old he was. Even at that, I don't think anything I said was terribly mean spirited. Besides, if anyone, yourself included, can't take a little ribbing and dish out as well, then this site probably isn't for them. Honestly, he seems to be doing quite well on his own without your unsolicited internet bodyguarding to back him up, so take a pill, k?

Better yet smash up some fresh or salted minnows in there and some crawlers or something too. But you'll probably get some catfish too though.

Put fresh fish through a juicer then mix with corn starch. Unflavored gelatin mixed with juice while cooling might also work-use less water at beginning. If you don't have a juicer use blender

Most of this sounds like you'll get some stinkbait as the end result, rather than pastey powerbait. Try making little chunks of this stuff and tying it as an egg sac. Also be sure to okay the preparation of this stuff with any domestic co-residents...or at least give them fair warning. I'd imagine it gets fairly fragrant. If the owner of the aforementioned juicers and blenders is a girlfriend/mom/grandma/wife/female, might wanna get written permission. And keep those pea sized balls out of the blades.

Oh and Leolizard, if you want to catch those Peters Browns don't use powerbait. Use minnows, spinners, spoons, lures, or a good old trout magnet. Pretty much anything to draw a strike.

'Bout 30 yrs. go I use to cut up sponge into little chunks, melt some petroleum jelly in a sauce pan, add a little flavor...anise or other baking oils then add the sm. pieces ov sponge, stir/soak take from heat then mold to shape. Worked good for steelhead. crappy Go out after dark & catch some crawlers, that's fun & Brownies luv 'em.

Get some hatchery food, mix it with corn meal and water, add a binding agent like paraffin wax. Or just find what the hatcher pellets are comprised off and use that. That old brown power bait hatchery formula was cheating. They always swallowed it hook and all. I still have the first jar of powerbait I ever bought. Only use it ice fishing. never got anything on the other brands!

Ya, DJ is right, the pellets composed of dog food, and you should definately throw in corn. I know thats what they use in the hatcheries in Kentucky. Corns outlawed down there
