I use a St Croix Premier Muskie 8'6" XH fast tip. No complaints.

Depending on the line you are using I would suggest different rods.

If you are using super braids I would go with longer rods and softer tips to help keep the line tight when fighting fish.

You will not need as stiff a rod to set hooks or work jerkbaits because there is no line streach.

With superbraids I use a6'6" for jerkbait rated for 2-5 OZ baits and a 7'6" rod rated for 1-3 oz minimum for plugs and bucktails. You will want a shorter stiffer rod if you fish with mono or or dacron.

Gander Mountain (brand) has some decent rods in the $60 range and the St Croix Mojo are hard to beat in the $140 range.

Personal preference but keep in mind a longer rod will yield longer cast and makes figure 8's much easier from a boat.
