Presque Isle

Want to fish Presque Isle Bay, and never fished it before.  Can anybody give me any help on what to use or what to fish for.   Thanks

Would lie to target some 'Eyes,  or large mouth.  I'll be fishing from shore and I mostly use all artificials.

As far as I know (which is not much) eyes are not caught too often in the bay. I have heard of a few, on occasion from the channel.

    Bigger is better.

Slick, when/where have you caught your eyes? I have honestly never heard of anybody catching them in the bay. From the South Pier, yes. That is pretty cool.

I saw my dad caught a 29" 10# walleye in Thompson's Bay. This was several years ago when the water level was higher. The tide would come in and out and we would hook into Pike all day.

The best thing was he caught it while jigging for panfish! It hit a split tail jig tipped with a maggot. No joke!

Slick, back in 1992 I was fishing in Marina bay near the very back(where they use to dock that big gray barge). Believe it or not it was early July in the evening. I saw a large school of minnows swimming towards me with fish and sea gulls going wild. It was only in casting distance for about 25 minutes. I threw a silver rattl-trap in it and started reeling fast-wham. Landed a 24 inch walleye, next cast I caught a 28 inch walleye. On the 3rd cast I hooked a bigger fish. Fought it for awhile and then it swam right at me. I saw him and he saw me(about a 33 inch Northern). He turned around and headed straight for a wooden post in the water. Snap! and guess what I had no more silver traps and the school disintegrated. My brother could not believe I caught those eyes in the bay in July, but they sure tasted good!!

As a friend on mines dad would say all you need is a hook a line and a piece of meat. In all honesty just bring a variety of soft plastics some 3/0 red weedless widegap hooks and have a blast because this week the spawn should finally be underway for both largemouths and smalmouths
